The Gates Are Open for the Nations to Come In

The gates of Zion are open for the nations to come in. Today, there are nations and peoples who are not yet Christian. There are nations that need to be reclaimed for the gospel. Our goal should be nothing less than to lead every nation, every people group to Christ. That does not necessarily mean that every single individual in those nations will become Christian but it does mean that the nation as a whole will acknowledge Christ. It means that the kingdom of God prevails in that nation. I do believe that in former days, this could be said of America. Today, we are doing our best to secularize the nation and separate our nation from God. Yet, this has not always been. Generations of the past honored the Christian religion and embraced it as their own as a people. This can be documented very clearly in our history. We must pray that not only America but all nations may become Christian and that the people of those nations will embrace Christ as Lord and Savior.

We should seek the prosperity of Zion. This is not in the health and wealth sense as some preach today. This is in a spiritual sense. We should seek the Revival of the church and its influence on the world for good in our day. This seems to be the focus of the OT prophets. It is true they prophesied about the destruction and captivity of Jerusalem but at the same time they always gave hope and pointed to another day when Zion would be glorious in this world. The message of the OT prophets was so different from modern doom saysers who seem to give no hope for the church in this age. The OT prophets focused on the future glory of Zion and so should we.

The Lord will build his church to completion. As Zerubbabel would build the temple in Jerusalem, so the Lord Jesus will build His Spiritual Temple, the Church. He will bring it to completion. It will be glorious.

We wonder why we are having troubles and we seek all kinds of secular solutions. Yet we never even consider that we may have become a land of idols. We have turned our backs on God and replaced Him with our idols. When we do that, God is not silent. He speaks and He acts. We cannot turn our backs on the God of our fathers and expect to continue under God's blessings. We keepl saying "God bless America". Yet, we refuse to give up our idols and to acknowledge the God we want to bless us. God's blessings have been abundant on this nation already. We have been blessed more than any nation in the world. Yet, those blessings will cease if we do not as a nation turn from our idols and turn back to God.

Jesus plainly told his audience that some of the ones standing before him would not taste death before they would see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. In other words, it would be in their lifetime. Jesus would come in His kingdom in their lifetime. That was in the first century. That is past not future. So, we can say for certain based on this verse that Jesus has already come in His kingdom and He did it in the first century during the lifetime of many who were hearing Him speak.

Jesus Christ will return in glory. Today, many scoff at His coming and don't believe in it. Some have greatly erred by trying to precict the time of His coming. None of this matters. The fact is that He will return and when He returns, He will return in glory. Those who remain in unbelief will be judged and punished. Those who believe and persevere in their faith will be rewarded. The Lord will return.

God's blessings will not go on indefinitely. They can easily be withdrawn when God chooses. We are reaching a point when the blessings upon the nation are beginning to depart unless we as a people repent and turn back to God

Believers will be raised on the Last Day. Jesus makes a simple statement. He doesn't come up with some complicated scheme for the last days but simply assures the believer that he will be raised at the Last Day. The early creeds of the church simply looked forward  to the end of the world and the resurrection of the dead at Christ's coming. He will come again but it will not be until the Last Day. History has to play itself out according to God's Plan and then the end will come.

The new birth is required for salvation.No one can give themselves the new birth. It only comes by the Spirit and Word. When the Holy Spirit comes in power throughj the preached Word, people are born again. Today, this is what we need. We need a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit in this land that people might be born again. We are not born again by anything that we do ourselves. It is something that has its origin in God and comes from God. New births will come only when God sends them to us by His Spirit and Word working in our hearts.

Today we are dishonoring marriage at an alarming rate. Marriage is an institution of God. When we dishonor marriage as God intended we are dishonoring God. Any nation that dishonors God cannot expect His blessings.

About Alex Dodson

Alex Dodson serves as president of Watchmen Radio Ministries International and as a staff evangelist. He has been in the gospel ministry for over thirty years. He was ordained in 1974 and has served as both a pastor and evangelist. He is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary and is presently a member of International Ministerial Fellowship. He has also done postgraduate studies at the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his wife Susan live in Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Northwest.
