Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

Lessons learned from Psalms 32—33 include: Faith is counted as righteousness. If you are a child of God, you can sin but you cannot live in it. If we stay close to God, He can guide us with His eye. The efforts of men to establish peace will come to nothing.

Lessons learned from Psalms 30:2—32:1 include: God can save sinners because Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sin. God sees you in your trouble; your times are in His hands. Jesus Christ is God with a face.

Lessons learned from Psalms 29—30 include: God can enable us to go through the storms of life and to know peace afterward. In every storm, God is in control. God doesn’t heal because we are special but because He is holy and maintains His holiness. It’s not pleasant to be disciplined, but God’s anger does not last forever.

Lessons learned from Psalms 27—28 include: God gives not only abundant life, He also empowers us to live that life. If you fear God, you need not fear anyone else. Whittle your life down to what is important. God has prepared a secret place where we can receive mercy.

Lessons from Psalms 25—27:1 include: Man can only go two ways: God’s way or his own way. God’s goodness, His love, and His righteousness are revealed in His provision for salvation. When we are in trouble, we are more apt to confess our sins.

Lessons learned from Psalm 23—24 include: Jesus leads, but we must follow. Death is the supreme test of life; we constantly live in its shadow. The Lord wants our joy to be full.

Lessons from Psalms 19—20 include: The heavens declare the glory of God. Creation has been the primary witness of God to man, His creature. All the members of the Trinity were involved in our redemption: God the Father planned it, the Son paid for it, and the Holy Spirit protects it. The greatest transgression is the rejection of Jesus Christ.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
