While Average Boy pays full attention (yeah, right…) to his Sunday school lesson, a new girl enters the room and causes a distraction. How embarrassing! When Bob’s new book, Average Boy’s Above-Average Year, comes out, he can’t help but be excited about sharing it with his friends. But he didn’t expect them to play a prank on him! Between the librarian telling him to hush to his classmates checking out other books, Average Boy feels pretty sad. When his friends come through, though, his frown turns upside down as he realizes they are just playing with him. Bob and his brother, Brian, get in a pre-Easter power struggle about who can hang out in the garage. As the older brother, Bob tries to be the bigger man. He also discovers that jumping on a pogo stick isn’t hard, unless you care about your body or owning nice things. In the end, Bob manages to mend his relationship with Brian—which is more than can be done for the Easter eggs that may or may not have been broken.
