Two Revolutions with One Guaranteed Outcome

July 2, 2016
It is somewhat ironic that as America celebrates independence from Britain this weekend, many in Britain are celebrating their nation’s recent vote for independence from the European Union. What was behind “Brexit” (i.e. British exit from the European Union) and what does it mean for Britain, Europe, and America? And what are the two great revolutions taking place in the western world right now?...

When Culture Hates You by Natasha Crain

As cultural hostility toward Christianity intensifies, many Christians have grown more reluctant to advocate for biblical values in the public square. But our perseverance for the common good—a good defined by God alone—is more important than ever in a culture that embraces darkness.

Teaching biblical doctrines to children. This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview. Moses said: These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. The truths of salvation, forgiveness, obedience, and others, should be taught to children early and often, as the ungodly world relentlessly tries to capture their hearts and minds...

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 What are “these words” that are to be on our hearts and taught diligently to our children? Biblical doctrines—truths about God and how we are to live and worship Him. The truths of salvation, forgiveness, obedience, and loving one’s neighbor, to name just a few, should be taught to children at the earliest ages. The ungodly world around us is relentlessly trying to capture hearts and minds, especially the young, with lies such as, “there are many paths to God … live for today and yourself … find your own truth.”...

Fatherhood in a post-Christian culture. Tragically, our culture has rejected the God-ordained design and purpose of a married father and mother raising children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Nowadays, mothers are urged to put career above childrearing, and at school, children are encouraged to choose their gender. But the biggest bullseye is on the head of the biblical family—the father. He is mocked and marginalized...

The government and media response to the mass-murder rampage by an Islamist at a homosexual nightclub in Orlando has been mostly about gun control, protecting Muslims from hate crimes, and celebrating the homosexual movement. In fact, there have even been suggestions in some quarters that Christians are the ones who have created the climate for this kind of tragedy through their opposition to same-sex marriage. There was a time when prayer, repentance, and soul-searching over what our society has become would have been at least part of the response. But not now, even in many churches. The main target of attack in our post-Christian society is the biblical family. Mothers are urged to put career above child-rearing and children are encouraged to choose their gender at school. But perhaps the biggest bullseye is on the head of the biblical family—the father. He has been marginalized, feminized, and minimized...

How to do sports God’s way. This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview. The discipline, training, and perseverance that sports demands provides fertile ground for the revealing and development of character. Scripture even uses athletic analogies to make spiritual points. And yet sports can be perilous. Pride, greed, anxiety, and temptations abound. Families find out that sports can quickly overwhelm their time and values...

Sports has been around for millennia. Scripture even uses athletic analogies to make spiritual points (e.g. 1 Corinthians 9, Hebrews 12, 1 Timothy 4). The discipline, training, self-restraint, focus, and perseverance that sports demands provides fertile ground for the revealing and development of character. And yet sports can be perilous. Motivations are often self-centered. The desire to win can be obsessive and the fear of losing paralyzing. Pride, anger, greed, and envy often reveal their ugly heads. Families find out the hard way that sports can quickly overwhelm their schedules and lead to ungodly attitudes and actions...

Tragically, music has become a major dividing line in the evangelical church and is often wrongly prioritized as much or more than the preaching of the Word. Music is a wonderful gift from God to be used to glorify Him and sanctify us. Music inspires—for good or evil—beyond words alone, and thus, we need to exercise wisdom in choosing music both inside and outside the church...
June 5, 2016
The style of music that an evangelical church features in its worship service is arguably the most important consideration for someone to attend. In fact, many churches offer multiple types of services—traditional, contemporary, blended—mostly to appeal to congregants’ musical preferences. This is ironic, considering Scripture does not mention music as a significant aspect of 1st Century church services, whereas today up to half or more of a typical church service is music...

How do we reconcile God’s sovereignty with our ability to make choices? This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview. All throughout the Bible, we see that God is in perfect control. He either causes or allows everything that happens. He is sovereign. And yet we also read that we are to choose good and refuse sin...
May 30, 2016
The sovereignty of God could be defined as God’s rule or control over everything in the universe. In other words, God knows all and causes or allows everything that happens. Wrapping our finite minds around that is hard enough, but now add that God has created us with the ability to make meaningful choices in a world over which He is sovereign...
