So What’s New in the World? Well, Actually Nothing.

October 24, 2015
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Romans 1:25 [Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] Many people, including Christians, watch what is taking place around the world and find it hard to understand. It seems that everything is changing and that we have entered a “brave new world.” For example, why is public life in America (education, government, business, etc.) expunging anything Christian as fast as possible? Why has marriage been redefined to include homosexual unions? Why is there perpetual turmoil in the world, especially in the Middle East? Why is man-made climate change alarmism a constant refrain? Why don’t the recent abortion videos cause taxpayer funding to be withdrawn? This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we are going to look at the early chapters of the first book of the Bible—Genesis—to understand what is taking place today actually started in the very beginning.

When Culture Hates You by Natasha Crain

As cultural hostility toward Christianity intensifies, many Christians have grown more reluctant to advocate for biblical values in the public square. But our perseverance for the common good—a good defined by God alone—is more important than ever in a culture that embraces darkness.

Past Episodes

“The current fight over Indiana [with regard to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act] is a real handwriting-on-the-wall moment for orthodox Christians and other religious conservatives, who now understand that the Left’s culture warriors, having won the gay-rights conflict decisively, are determined to shoot the prisoners.” So started a recent column in Time Magazine entitled, “The Writing’s on the Wall for Christians.” Our nation was told by homosexual advocates that “marriage equality (i.e. same-sex marriage) won’t impact you,” but that has turned out to be a lie. Christians who refuse to service a homosexual event that violates their religious beliefs are hauled before the courts to be punished. No doubt churches with their “discriminatory policies against gays and women” are next in the firing line...

It’s called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (or PTSD for short), and it “develops after a terrifying ordeal that involved physical harm or the threat of physical harm” (National Institute of Mental Health). PTSD is most known for effecting war veterans (up to 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans develop it according to a study by the Dep’t of Veteran Affairs). But it also impacts others who have experienced a highly stressful event like rape, kidnapping, physical assault, car accident, terrorism, death of a loved one, or even a natural disaster. The result is high anxiety, sleep loss, depression, relationship breakdowns, and even suicide. Common treatments include psychological counseling and medication. This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we will be broadcasting LIVE from a Tip of the Spear veterans outreach event near St. Paul, Minnesota to discuss the impact and treatment of PTSD, asking the question: What does God’s Word say that will help with PTSD?...

[Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, recently visited the United States, speaking to Congress, the United Nations, and hundreds of thousands more in Philadelphia. Media coverage was almost non-stop to the extent that no other world leader has received so much or so favorable coverage (at least in my memory). This is somewhat surprising, considering the Roman Catholic Church has been riddled by child abuse scandals and the loss of adherents in America. What were the major takeaways of the Pope’s visit? How did Evangelicals respond? How should biblical Christians view the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church? When the leader of one of the largest religious groups in the world speaks, there is bound to be significance. Join us this weekend on The Christian Worldview radio program. Englishman Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones is considered one of the most important and influential preachers of the last 100 years. A highly respected doctor, he gave up a burgeoning medical career to devote his life to looking after the health of men’s soul. In an age today when pastors and churches spend lots of time focusing on “culturally relevant” worship music and settings and base their sermons on felt-need topics for “seekers” (unbelievers), the life and preaching of Lloyd-Jones stands in stark contrast. What was it about Lloyd-Jones’ preaching that caused it to be called “logic on fire”? What are the major lessons that pastors, churches, and individual Christians can take away from his example? Matthew Robinson, the producer of the film, Logic on Fire: The Life and Legacy of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, joins us this weekend on The Christian Worldview to answer these questions and more...

Every year around Easter, a television program or magazine will advertise a headline that goes something like this: “Who Is The Real Jesus?” “Scholars” will be interviewed who wax on about their own “research” and “new discoveries” about Jesus, all the while leaving the viewer/reader with more questions than answers by the end. And that’s exactly their point—that Jesus is a mysterious character and that we really can’t be definitive about who He is. Well, it’s a good thing we have the Bible, God’s inspired and inerrant Word, which tell us everything God wanted us to know about His Son, Jesus the Christ. And it’s a lot. This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we are going to do our own “Who Is Jesus?” show with Greg Gilbert, pastor of Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, KY and the author of an excellent new book, “Who Is Jesus?” We hope you can tune and focus on the One we remember, worship, and celebrate this Easter weekend...

When you consider President Obama wants America to enter into a nuclear deal with Iran, a country who openly seeks our and Israel’s destruction… When you see historically Christian-majority countries like Germany and England welcoming hundreds of thousands of Muslim immigrants… When you watch Planned Parenthood and its supporters defend the killing of the unborn and the selling of their body parts… Do you ever ask yourself, “What in the worldview leads people to do these things?” This weekend on The Christian Worldview, noted author and speaker Nancy Pearcey joins us to discuss how to unmask the various worldviews that lead to the illogical and immoral decisions that are occurring all around us. Pearcey’s new book is Finding Truth: Five Principles for Unmasking Atheism, Secularism, and Other God Substitutes...

[Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] America has become a country of extremes with regard to work. Some people dislike their jobs and co-workers and only go to work because they need the money. Others love their work so much that they sacrifice family and health to climb the ladder. Still others don’t work, even if they are able, because being unemployed allows them to receive taxpayer-funded monies and benefits from government. I would guess that a small minority of people in this country actually see work the way God wants us to—as a way to serve and worship Him...

What does it mean that the Obama administration has made a nuclear deal with Iran, a country whose leadership openly seeks the downfall of America and the destruction of Israel? What does it mean that the Pope, the head of the largest religion in the world (Roman Catholicism), has reached out to Kenneth Copeland, urging ecumenical reconciliation between Catholics and Charismatics? And what do all the recent events in America portend: the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, the increasing persecution of Christians, the 2016 election, and the speed with which things are changing? Jan Markell, the host of Understanding the Times, a weekly radio program heard on over 800 stations, joins us this weekend to discussing how geo-political-religious events are setting the stage for the biblical end of times. We’ll also get a preview of the topics and guests coming up at the Understanding the Times National Conference on Oct. 2-3, 2015 at Grace Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota...

Right now hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of teenagers are embarking on one of life’s most perilous and challenging transitions as they leave home and go to college. They are going from dependence to independence, from parental values to forming their own personal values. Waiting for them on campus are professors seeking to “open their minds” and peers looking to “experiment” with their first taste of “freedom.” It’s no wonder that a high percentage of Christian students go to college and stray from the faith. And it all happens so quickly—within weeks of their big transition, too many students are swept away never to be the same again...

[Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] Unless you choose to remain willfully ignorant, it has become increasingly clear what is taking place each and every day behind the walls of abortion facilities all over our nation—the barbaric, cold-hearted murder of human babies and the selling of their body parts for bloody profit. Over the last month or so, the pro-life group, Center for Medical Progress, has released a series of videos showing undercover interviews with staff from Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country, discussing and negotiating the sale of body parts of aborted babies.
