An Easter 'PSA' on "Cosmic Child Abuse"

April 4, 2010
Guest: Todd Friel, host, Wretched Radio
This weekend, Christians celebrate the most significant event in history -- the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Those in other religions and even some professing Christians have called Christ's sacrifice on the cross "cosmic child abuse", as in, God violently punished His own Son for the sins of others. They say a "God of love" should and would never do that.
Todd Friel, the host of 'Wretched', a nationally-syndicated radio and television program, will join us this weekend on The Christian Worldview to issue an Easter 'PSA', as in, why the Penal Substitutionary Atonement of Jesus Christ is not cosmic child abuse, but rather the center point of God's plan to save sinners like you and me.

When Culture Hates You by Natasha Crain

As cultural hostility toward Christianity intensifies, many Christians have grown more reluctant to advocate for biblical values in the public square. But our perseverance for the common good—a good defined by God alone—is more important than ever in a culture that embraces darkness.

It was just another week of “change” in the Obama administration. As if the President signing the single largest piece of legislation ever with the health care bill wasn’t enough, the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy regarding homosexuals in the military was softened, the Social Security Administration announced it will pay out more than it takes in for the first time, and finally and most importantly, Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, was basically humiliated in his visit with President Obama at the White House.   ObamaCare may be terrible for the country for reasons described on the program last weekend, but now the Obama administration’s pattern of spurning Israel is downright dangerous for America. The Bible is clear: God blesses those nations who bless Israel and curses those nations who reject her (i.e. Genesis 12:3).   Why do political and religious liberals always oppose Israel and sympathize with her enemies? We’ll answer that question this weekend on The Christian Worldview.

Arguably the most transformational piece of legislation ever put forth by the United States Congress is due to be voted upon this Sunday by the U.S. House of Representatives. Every single American will be impacted by the outcome of this vote on the future of health care because we all will need it during our lives.   Make no mistake, this bill is a transitional step to a future government takeover of our health care system -- often called "universal health care" or "single-payer" or "socialized medicine" -- where government holds the decision-making power over citizen's health care, as in Canada.   The Democrats, Progressives, and Socialists in this country have done everything -- bribes, lies, schemes -- to get this bill passed and the question is "Why?" Why is passing "health care reform" so important to those with a humanistic worldview and how should Christians respond?

Now that's sort of an important question, isn't it? Have you ever thought about what your overarching, priority-one mission as a Christian should be? Should it be to transform society to reflect the kingdom of God and biblical values -- to defend life and marriage, to end poverty and injustice -- or should it be to evangelize the lost and disciple each other?   Or perhaps it's both? And if so, how does that play out seeing we only have a finite amount of time, energy, and resources? A big question, an important question to be answered this weekend on The Christian Worldview. Plus, interviews with Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, and Aubrea Wagner, the winner of The Master's College Essay Contest 2010.

Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Yet, there is an increasing number of fools today (even highly educated ones like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Bill Maher) who scoff at the existence of God with a loud megaphone to an impressionable audience. Good thing Christian evangelist and apologist Ray Comfort has just released an excellent new book entitled, You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, But You Can't Make Him Think. Comfort has heard it all from critics and skeptics…and has biblical answers for every one, including how they can know the God they reject. Find out how you can answer and reach atheists and other assorted fools this week on The Christian Worldview.

The kingdom. You read about it all over Scripture, but what exactly does it mean? Does the kingdom refer to a present reality on earth or a future reign? How is the kingdom of God similar or different than the kingdom of heaven? How is the kingdom defined different ways by different people? What does it mean when someone proclaims, "Christians must work to bring in the kingdom!" or "Christ will return when the kingdom takes dominion on the earth"? David Wheaton, and guest Phil Johnson, Executive Director of Grace to You, will answer these questions on this week's The Christian Worldview program. Says Wheaton, "Having a clear understanding of the meaning of the kingdom and a Christian's role in it is critically important. Phil Johnson, the executive director of Grace to You and keynote speaker at next week's Shepherds' Conference, will give us a biblical perspective on the kingdom and how it applies to you."

The jailer in Phillipi asked one of his inmates, the Apostle Paul: "What must I do to be saved." Paul's answer was simple, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ." But what does it mean to "believe in Jesus"? Here's how some would answer: "You just have to accept Jesus into your heart." The question we will grapple with in Hour 1 of The Christian Worldview is this: How much of the gospel must one understand to be saved? Is it necessary to understand all aspects and ramifications of Christ's sacrifice or is it enough just to "believe in Jesus" as Paul seems to say? As a lead-up to this topic, read our new presentation of the gospel on TheChristianWorldview.com entitled, How To Be Right With God.

The inerrancy of Scripture is a pivotal doctrine. Christian institutions and individuals come down on different sides of this issue and the ramifications are huge. Is the Bible really without any errors? Can it be trusted to be the perfect Word of God? How does inerrancy relate to infallibility? And why is inerrancy so important? Abner Chou, the “Teacher of the Year” at The Master’s College in 2009, will be our guest to explain what inerrancy of Scripture actually means and how it is the starting point of a sharp Christian worldview.

A couple hundred years ago, most people in America believed the universe was created by God. That changed when an Englishman named Charles Darwin took a boat ride to the Galapagos Islands off South America in the 1830’s. With the printing of Darwin’s book, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life” (yes, that is the full original title), the educated elite and then the regular folks began to believe “the lie”. This week on The Christian Worldview, Robert Carter from Creation Ministries International will tell us the ramifications of the shift in worldview from creationism to Darwinian evolution and when, if ever, this flawed theory will be discarded on the ash heap of history.

When FOX News Channel contributor Brit Hume expresses his opinion that Tiger Woods should seek Christianity rather than Buddhism to find redemption and forgiveness from his marital infidelities, the secular world goes apoplectic with scorn. Why is that? When Focus on the Family creates a Super Bowl commercial that features Pam Tebow, mother of Univ. of Florida star quarterback Tim Tebow, talking about her story of bringing Tim to term despite possible health challenges, the secular world goes crazy with rage. Why? What is it about Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible that get the secular world in a frothy-mouthed state and how should Christians respond? We’ll discuss that in Hour 2 of The Christian Worldview this Saturday.

Life is a clash of worldviews. Whether we realize it or not, there is a constant war being waged over which ideas, values, and beliefs will control public policy, media, culture, and personal behavior. Recent events are a perfect example of this war of worldviews. Republican Scott Brown was shockingly elected to fill the Senatorial seat that Democrat Ted Kennedy held in Massachusetts for decades which resulted in the Democrats losing their 60-vote supermajority in the U.S. Senate. What worldview are the people of Massachusetts rejecting in voting for Brown? Dr. David Noebel, president of Summit Ministries and internationally-known expert on worldviews, will help us clarify these clashes of worldviews in the news.
