March 21, 2025

God has blessed us immeasurably. But if we don’t become disciples of Jesus and set our hearts to honor him, then these very blessings will become curses. If we misuse what God has given us, it becomes harmful to us. God is looking for much more than outward rituals. He wants our hearts.

We've all felt the sting of mental pain. Some of us are distressed by our jobs or our families; others have suffered from severe mental disorders for their whole lives. Whatever your story, you need to know the perfect peace that comes only by resting in the Lord God. In this booklet, Dr. Boice examines what the Bible says about the mental anguish that we face, and draw from God's Word pastoral comfort for the suffering.

Two things should characterize a Christian more than anything else. One is a deep sense of our unworthiness and sin. The other is an even deeper sense of the grace of God. The Bible calls us dead in sin – it doesn’t get much worse than that. But by the grace given through Jesus Christ, he makes us alive to follow him.

It’s tempting to think that nobody cares about God. It’s especially true when we see other Christians adapting the ways of our culture. When God’s work gets hard, it’s tempting to think we’re the only one who honors Him. But this is based on our limited vision, not on truth from Scripture. Paul argues in Romans that we are not alone.

Do you think about the many people who have never heard the gospel? People who don’t have a Bible in their own language? Are they still punished, though no one has taken the Good News to them? People asked the Apostle Paul the same questions centuries ago. Let’s look together at his response.

The Word of God is able to melt the toughest hearts and reach the most unlikely people. Even savage headhunters don’t stand a chance. It’s because the Word of God is the power to salvation. But in order for people to believe in God, someone needs to tell. Those who follow Christ are called to tell others about the Good News.

Sometimes knowing in advance that we will fail is actually quite encouraging. That’s the case in Romans where Paul acknowledges that not everyone he has shared the gospel with has followed Christ. How is this encouraging for us as we witness to those around us?

Nations rise and fall, all at the hand of the Almighty God. But why would God cause the death of a nation? How can a nation have a spiritual life, and what does this look like? As we celebrate the 4th of July, let’s remember that we are still dependent on God and His mercy.

Beautiful people: we all know who they are. Perfect hair, perfect clothes, perfect job. The rest of us spend a great part of our lives trying to be like them. But God calls us to be beautiful people, too. He calls “beautiful” those who take the good news of salvation to those who don’t know it.
