Joy Is Jesus

December 22, 2022

When we hear the word Christmas, many of us think of all the time spent finding the perfect gifts for the ones we love.  God's perfect Christmas gift for us was His Son.  In this message, Jill Briscoe offers us the opportunity to have our first real Christmas through accepting the indescribable gift that God has given us.

Keturah didn't know it, but when she hid in her family's stable that dark, star-filled night, she was in for a big surprise! Regularly cast aside because of her crippled hands, God had carefully chosen this young, Hebrew girl to be part of His miraculous entrance into the world! The Innkeeper's Daughter is a tender, whimsical story that gives you a glimpse of what might have happened in the stable on the night Jesus was born. Written and narrated by Jill Briscoe, children and adults will be captivated by her vivid descriptions of the stable and the many unusual visitors who came. Follow little Keturah inside the cramped, smelly barn and see what she saw: talking animals, chubby angels, regal wise men, and ultimately, the King of Kings, whose coming wasn’t the only miracle that night!

"That though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." 2 Corinthians 8:9 There are over 350 prophesies in the Old Testament that describe the Messiah. Jesus, born with no fanfare or even a crib, fulfilled every single one! The mathematical odds of that are virtually impossible. And yet, even with that knowledge, the question about Jesus is ultimately a personal one you have to decide on your own. Who do you think the baby Jesus was? In this message from Jill, she asks you this very question. If you believe the baby Jesus is God, you will live your life with a different perspective and purpose.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 Jesus did not say, "Come to me and I'll fill your life full of stuff." He said, "I’ll fill it full of Me. I’ll fill it full of God, and then you will have life to the full." And that's what Christmas is all about. We often forget that as we get busy shopping, baking, decorating, wrapping, and attending parties. In this message, Jill challenges us to keep the focus on Christ and the significance of His birth this Christmas.

How can we get ready for Christ to come this Christmas and not allow Christmas to come without Christ? It's not easy to keep Christ in the spotlight when we are so busy preparing for the happenings of the season. But we can, and must, focus on what He did for us as we celebrate His birth this Christmas.

Who was Jesus? Jesus was no ordinary child. The book of Hebrews says He was Divinity. He was God Himself, Immanuel—God with us. In this Christmas message, Jill Briscoe discusses the miraculous birth of Jesus, who Jesus was, and what that means for us. Jill reads her poem "Divinity Wrapped in a Blanket."

While here on earth, Jesus himself sought communion with God through prayer. His disciples were to do likewise. He gave us a pattern to follow. For those who ask, seek, and knock, God is more than willing to answer. He is even more willing than friends or an earthly father, as Jesus explains through the parables. But the Christian's prayer requests need to be in line with Jesus' model prayer.

One of the things that matters most to Jesus is our personal relationship with Him. This matters to Him even when it doesn't matter to us! He offers the human race an incredible invitation. He says, "Let’s talk." What does this mean? It involves listening to His Word and responding in prayer.

Have you ever received a gift you didn't deserve? This is exactly what happens at the judgment seat of Christ. The Bible is filled with hints of what this event might be like for us. Jill discusses a couple of them for us to try and paint us a picture. Not only do we receive the gift of dwelling in heaven when Christ died on the cross for us, we also get rewarded for the things that Christ did through us while we were on earth.

We have the free will to make our own choices in life. These choices set the path for our earthly existence and, ultimately, our eternal existence. But there is a coming day when we will stand at the great white throne of God and deal with the consequences of the most important choice we had to make on earth. Jill talks through several verses in the Bible explaining the ramifications of the decision to trust Jesus Christ as our Savior, or not. This message includes Jill reading her poem, "Judge Jesus."

Do you have friends and family who have not yet accepted the Lord? Knowing that our time on earth could end at any moment, are you worried about them spending eternity in the outer darkness called hell? Jill insists that if hell is a real existence and there's a possibility that our unbelieving loved ones may end up there, it is a crucial matter to discuss. She dives into this controversial topic: Is there a second chance to accept Christ after death?
