April 12, 2025

Whether you realize it or not you’re involved in a building project!  And that is our very own lives.  And the foundation makes all the difference in the world in this building endeavor.  Today on Study the Word we’ll see what a wise builder looks like, as we turn back to First Corinthians chapter three.

A Study in the Book of Ruth

The book of Ruth is more than just a God ordained love story, although it is certainly that as well.  It reveals the extent of God’s kindness and grace. He accepted Ruth, once an outcast, into his chosen people, and went on to  honor her by  allowing King David and Jesus to be born of her lineage.  Pastor Thom explores the life of Ruth in his 13 message series entitled, Experience Hope in the Life of Ruth.  Request your copy today, on USB flash drive or CD, for a gift  of $25 or more.

Past Episodes

In Ecclesiastes chapter three we are given insight into time and eternity. Last time we began a message entitled “the miracle is in the timing.”  And we were encouraged to make the most of our God given opportunities. For the reality of God and eternity and His mastery over time is hard to deny. We continue today’s lesson from Ecclesiastes chapter three picking up in verse eleven with pastor Thom seeking to instill a sense of urgency for “now is time.”

Don’t you find it encouraging when you see a Christian who is faithful to the very end!  But what about you?  Will you go to the bench too early or remain faithful?  That’s one of many questions we’ll be asking ourselves as pastor Thom brings part two of “A Fool Becomes a King.”
April 9, 2025
Pastor Thom is in a study of Ecclesiastes, and we’ll be in chapter two today.  Solomon is about to choose a hot-headed fool to succeed him to the throne.  Why would he do such a thing?  You’re about to find out on Study the Word.

Sex outside of marriage and pornography is applauded today, and portrayed as perfectly acceptable.  And many are seeking fulfillment in that realm, just as the man we’ll hear about today on Study the Word.  But what you may not realize is, when you have sex with someone there’s a blending of spirits that occurs.  That’s why God has designed it for the marriage relationship alone.  Pastor Thom Keller’s message today is based in Ecclesiastes two.

If you’re a believer in Christ I’m sure you’ve given some thought to what our arrival in heaven will be like!  Maybe like myself you’ve had some loved ones enter into heaven recently.  We’re talking about that glorious day when we arrive in heaven, today on Study the Word, as pastor Thom Keller returns to First Corinthians.  We’ll be in chapter three today.

We again open our Bibles to the book of Ecclesiastics, chapter two. This chapter can be capsulated this way: The futility of pleasure and possession, and true satisfaction is found in a relationship with Christ.

We’ve got a great study lined up for you today in the first and second chapters of Ecclesiastics.  King Solomon found out the hard way that the material and sensual pleasures he pursued were really worthless. That’s a great lesson for us in this materialistic, pleasure seeking world we live in.

Maybe today you’re down and discouraged not knowing where to turn?  We’ll hear of one man’s struggle to find the meaning and purpose in life and draw inspiration and wisdom from it today on Study the Word.  His conclusion is the same we should arrive at, and that is apart from God life is empty and frustrating.  But the good news is if we’ll trust in Christ and live for the glory of God we can find what we’re missing.

M. aterial possessions have nothing to do with eternal happiness. If you’re looking for a perfect example of this truth, you need look no further than King Solomon. He had everything a man could want materially - and yet he reached a time in his life when he felt completely empty.  Maybe that’s the station in life you’re at today? The book of Ecclesiastics is the outpouring of those feelings from the heart of Solomon.

About Study the Word

Study the Word is a radio ministry of Calvary Chapel Lebanon, Pennsylvania. It features the teaching ministry of pastor Thom Keller.  As we go verse by verse through the Scriptures, our hearts desire is to encourage you to not only Study the Word, but seek to follow God and obey His Word.

About Pastor Thom Keller

Thom began teaching an inner-city Bible study in 1995. That love of teaching God’s word eventually led to the formation of Calvary Chapel Lebanon in October, 2001, with about 50 people meeting in an old hardware store. Our church ministry and philosophy centers on teaching God’s word chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

Prior to pastoring, Thom was president and general manager of Keller Brothers Ford, a third-generation family business that began in 1921.  After 8 years of bi-vocational ministry, in 2009, Thom sold the business and became a full-time pastor.

Thom and his wife, Sue, live near Schaefferstown. Thom and Sue enjoy snow skiing, mountain biking and motorcycle rides.  Thom has often said that he loves performing weddings because he loves being married!

Ted, pictured above is Sue’s brother who has lived with Thom and Sue since 2001.

“It has been an absolute joy to see the changes God is bringing about in the lives of individuals, marriages and families at Calvary Chapel. God’s word does not return void!”

Currently we have worship services Sunday morning at 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM at our church located at 740 Willow St.  Please introduce yourself when you stop by!
