Victory Through Faith Part 2

December 30, 2021

Pastor Jeff Johnson is in a chapter by chapter study of Joshua.  Joshua and the people of Israel are about to experience an incredible victory at Jericho.  It came because they did God’s work God’s way. That’s the recipe for success for us too.  Let’s see how to experience victory through faith, today on Sound Doctrine.

From our early days in Sunday School many of us have heard time and time again the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho.  But there’s a very important lesson tucked within this story that you may have missed!   Pastor Jeff Johnson is going to focus on Joshua six.  God is about to give Joshua and His people marching orders that may have seemed a little strange.  They followed God’s plan though, and victory was obtained.

Jeff Johnson heads back to Joshua on this Tuesday.  The Lord called Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land, and there were certainly battles involved.  But it was important for the people to realize- the battle was the Lord’s.  Oh how we need to hear that today, as we will face many battles in life in the year ahead.  As we’re going about the Lord’s work, He’s going to make sure it’s successful, if we’ll rely on Him in faith.

We all face battles in life that we simply can’t conquer on our own.  The flesh is one of them.  But there is a way to experience victory, and it comes to our attention in Joshua chapter five.  As the people of God prepare for battle, pastor Jeff Johnson has observed a couple of keys to the victory they’d soon experience.  The first is they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

“The fear of man” the bible says, “is a snare.” Men use it to trap others, to control them, or worse. But there’s an antidote. That comes to our attention on today’s Sound Doctrine. As we fast approach Christmas we’ll take a pause in our study of the book of Joshua and turn to the gospel of Luke.

It’s said of loving parents, “They are only as happy as their children.” It points to the risk love takes to bring children into the world. For at some point they must choose.  And at times they make the wrong choice.  On today’s Sound Doctrine we’ll learn of a teaching tool that’ll give us hope and make a difference. It’s found in the memorial stones described in Joshua chapter four.

How are we to be living, or what should we be doing?  This section of First Peter answers that for us beautifully. While many are turning to evil, we’re to be turning away from it.  And that’s demonstrated even in how we speak to one another.
