To Start Well and Finish Poorly Part 2

October 4, 2021

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” So said Mark Twain. But that’s only half the story!  You must finish as well. It’s easier said than done!  The Bible is littered with those who only have a good beginning but not a good ending. We’ll hear of one today.

Let’s face it, we can so easily drift into a worldly mindset.  Many are living that way.  But today on Sound Doctrine we’d like to encourage you to put on the mind of Christ.  How do you do this?  In short by following the example of Jesus.  And pastor Jeff Johnson will show us what that looks like on Sound Doctrine.

It’s been well said “That no one has ever become poor by giving.” And “the happiest people are those who are not getting more but giving more.” Still many struggle in their giving to the Lord. While it’s understandable, having bills to pay and limited resources, it’s not necessary.  The Lord knows and is certainly able to provide! That comes to our attention in a powerful way on today’s Sound Doctrine.

The disciples on the road to Emmaus we’re all but dead till Jesus came and spoke the word.  The Word burned in their heart and revived them.  Here at Sound Doctrine it's our desire that God’s Word would burn in your heart like it did then and many other times in history. One such time is recorded in Second Chronicles chapter twenty-three.

It’s seems like the enemy has the upper hand. And there’s no stopping him. That’s not a new problem as we’ll learn on today’s Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson. The Old Testament book of Second Chronicles bears testimony to this problem of evil. While it’s still a battle, God wins!

An entrenched enemy is not easily defeated so we must stay alert to the slightest advancement and not give any ground. Today’s Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson will help us with that task. We’ll find that as we continue in Second Chronicles.

We live a dark world that’s getting darker by the day.  Light desperately needed. Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can. We’ll hear of an inspiring case in point on today’s Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson. Second Chronicles records a dark time in history that got even darker. With that said, there was a flickering light that began to shine.

We left off in First Peter chapter two, at verse 21.  And Peter is touching on something we all need, and that is the mind of Christ.  What is it, and how do you get it?  Stay close by, as those answers and more are coming your way on Sound Doctrine.  We’ll also look at the motivation behind it.

I’m sure you’ve heard this line, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”  It’s meant to convey that children often show the qualities or talents of their parents.  And that certainly holds true for the King we’ll hear about today.  His mother would counsel him to do wickedly, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

Sin, you either kill it or it will kill you. We see this play out individually and nationally. Some attribute our woes to other causes but their failed remedies, that are playing out in front of us, tell another story.  With that said, we’re not left without hope, as we’ll hear on today’s Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson.

The importance of passing the baton from one generation to the next cannot be overstated. Failure to do so leads to trouble on multiple levels. On today’s Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson we return to Second Chronicles, and we’ll hear of failure on a spiritual and on a leadership level that leads to a national crisis.
