Today we make our way over to Acts chapter eight and receive a classic example of what’s been called a divine appointment. Philip is directed by the Lord to a man who was serious about searching for God and just happened to be reading the Scripture but needed someone to help him understand it. What a set up!

Acts chapter eight tells of this man Simon who was baptized by Philip but then he sought to buy the power of the Holy Spirit from the apostle Peter. There’s a difference between professing faith and possessing faith.

It seems that many today are just like Simon - they’re more interested in having supernatural experiences than a relationship with the God of the universe. Wanting only what’s on he master’s table but not the master.

As we continue our look at Acts chapter eight today, we are reminded of the fact that God can change anyone’s life - no matter how bad they’ve been. Saul of Tarsus is a perfect example of this. He was a persecuted of Christians. He mocked them, tortured them and found great delight in their pain. Then he encountered the very God he was mocking, and his life changed completely.

In Acts chapter eight we find the Church expanding after the death of Stephen. It’s in the eighth chapter of Acts that we meet one of the most significant men in the bible - a man named Saul. When you consider that after his conversion to Christianity he wrote a significant amount of the New Testament, it is striking to see the terrible man he was prior to his conversion.
