We’re entering the courtroom, as we turn together to First John chapter two!  The accuser is satan, and our advocate is Jesus!  As we stand before the judge guilty as could be, Jesus is willing to take the punishment we rightly deserve, and save us from an eternity apart from God.  Such amazing grace will leave us saying today, “Hallelujah What a Savior!”

Others might say that happiness is discovered with fame or physical beauty. We’ll explore God’s pattern for happy living as we look at the Sermon on the Mount here today on Sound Doctrine.  As we read the sermon, we soon realize the need for application to our lives.

Have you ever tried to put something together without reading the instructions first?  How did that go for you?  If your experience is like mine, it usually doesn’t turn out so well.  Today on Sound Doctrine we find that God has clearly layed out in His Word how we’re to conduct ourselves as His disciples.  And we’d do well to read the instruction manual and then apply it!  Matthew chapter five contains the great sermon on the mount.

We’re in Matthew’s gospel right now, and today we turn a corner in the life and ministry of Jesus, as He enters His public ministry!  Put another way, the doing and deeds of the King!  You’ll soon see that the context of His ministry was the Galilee region, and He delivered a message of repentance. Interestingly, this is what we’re to be doing as His followers.

We’re going through Matthew’s Gospel right now, and today we pickup where we left off in chapter 4.  If you’ll recall this is where Jesus was tempted in the wilderness.  And just like our Lord faced temptation during His time on earth, so too will we.  And I’m glad to say there’s a way to overcome.  Pastor Jeff Johnson will utilize this time together to point out several practical steps we can take in overcoming temptation.

Temptation… it’s something we all face.  Whether it’s to look at something on the internet that we shouldn’t, lash out in anger, or even worry when a trial hits.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll recall a time in King Jesus’ life when He was tempted and tested.  It’ll serve to help us the next time temptation strikes our own lives. We’ll also ask why was He tempted?
