Jeff Johnson

This is the Day Part 1

September 9, 2024

Pastor Jeff Johnson is leading a study of Matthew’s gospel right now, and we enter a new chapter today, and a turning point in the Lord’s ministry.  Jesus is about to enter into Jerusalem on a donkey as King and Messiah.   Why a donkey you may ask?  Jeff has observed three very good reasons, and one of them being, it was to fulfill prophecy.

We dive back into First John chapter four with pastor Jeff Johnson this weekend.  God loves us more than words can tell, and now He calls us as His followers to love one another as He has loved us!  Sounds like a tall order, but realize He also empowers us to do this.  We’re simply to be a conduit of His love, allowing it to flow in and through our lives.

We’ll be finishing up Matthew chapter twenty today with pastor Jeff Johnson.  Jesus is about to give sight to two blind men. But as you’ll soon see it speaks volumes to us today!

You may have heard the expression, “Desperate times call for desperate measures!”   A case could be made that these are desperate times and so we should be desperate for God!  Again we’re in Matthew chapter twenty where Jesus gives two desperate blind men their sight.  The lessons that flow from it are huge.

As we head back to Matthew chapter twenty let me set the scene for you.  A mother is about to approach Jesus asking that her boys be given high ranking positions in the Kingdom.  While that ruffled a few feathers, how Jesus responds is brilliant, and gives us some clues about the keys to greatness in God’s eyes.   Here’s a hint, it’s connected to serving!

We’re talking about ministry today, what it costs as well as the path!  Now you might be under the impression that ministry is best left up to the leaders of your church.  But the truth is, God calls each Christian to the ministry.  Have you accepted the call?

In the world as we know it the powerful, rich and famous are highly regarded.  But in the Kingdom of Heaven God has a much different standard for position and rewards that just may surprise you!  We’re in Matthew chapter 20 today and upon first glance at this story you might be tempted to think God isn’t being fair or just! Some have totally missed the point of the passage and drawn the wrong conclusion as you’ll soon see.

We’ll be resuming pastor Jeff Johnson’s series in First John, with another stop in chapter four.  The apostle John is about to return to his main theme of loving one another, as he explains this is the telltale sign that we’re truly born again.

It may seem unfair to you that someone who has been walking with God for many years can potentially receive the same reward as someone who barely makes it into heaven. How in the world is that fair and if it is, by whose standards?  Let’s talk about it today on Sound Doctrine as we open up Matthew chapter twenty with pastor Jeff Johnson.

How do I get to heaven?  An important question, no doubt about it.  But many are confused about the answer, thinking their own works or merit play a part.  Today on Sound Doctrine we turn to Matthew chapter nineteen and Jesus leaves no doubt that entering into the Kingdom of heaven is impossible on our own.  But God does it for you!

Sinless perfection… that’s what is required for us to enter into the Kingdom of heaven.   But you’ve probably noticed, that’s impossible, in and of ourselves, as we’re all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. So where does that leave us?  What’s impossible for mankind is made possible through Jesus.   We’ll talk about it today on Sound Doctrine, as Jesus speaks about the deceitfulness of riches and the Kingdom of God!
