The Warning Against Religion Part 2

October 4, 2024

We’ll be in Matthew chapter 23 today if you want to find your place there now.  Jesus is in the last week of His earthly ministry and conveying some important things to His disciples before He would leave them.  In this passage He takes time out to point out the hypocrisy in the religious leaders.  Essentially saying, don’t be like them!  They were putting on a good show, but we’re not practicing

In Matthew chapter 23 Jesus delivers His last sermon before His crucifixion.  What He chooses to talk about may surprise you!  It was a message of warning and condemnation, the greatest enemy in the last days.  So definitely something we need to hear, as we’re in the last days!

Jesus is about to answer this question from an expert in the law, “Which is the greatest commandment in the law?”  The Lord would reply, “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind, and then love your neighbor as yourself!”   We’re talking about our relationship between God and our neighbors today!

As we get back to Matthew chapter 22, Jesus has another encounter with the Pharisees.  They’re testing the Lord with yet another question, and this one is which is the greatest commandment of the law?  You’re about to hear Jesus’ reply and it will prove to be very instructive to our lives today.

Would you best be described as earthly or heavenly minded?  Keep that question in mind as you join us for another Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson. Today we come back to Matthew chapter twenty-two and hear about some religious people that were blind to the Word of God and power of God!  It’s reminiscent of so many in our world today.

Pastor Jeff Johnson attracts our attention to First John chapter four, and verses 17-21.  In recent studies we’ve been encouraged to love one another, an important part of the Christian life to be sure.  But today we want to focus on the vertical, our relationship and love for Father God.   Something that should be priority number one!

Today we’ll continue Jeff’s verse by verse series through Matthew with a stop in chapter twenty-two.  Today we find the Sadducees of the day taking a shot at Jesus. And as always, the Lord puts no doubt in anyone’s mind who is really the authority on all matters and in control.

Pastor Jeff Johnson is leading a study of Matthew right now, and today we return to chapter 22 asking and answering some financial questions!  We don’t always see eye to eye with the government but we’re still to pray for those in authority and pay our taxes.  We’re to be good citizens.  But are there times when we are to say no to what the government tells us to do?  Find out today.

We’re on an incredible journey through Matthew’s gospel, and today we return to chapter twenty-two.  In verses 15-22 the Pharisees and Herodians are up to no good, attempting to trap Jesus yet again.  But Jesus saw right through it!  Through this exchange we’ll be addressing some financial questions, like what does the Bible say about paying taxes?

When someone invites us over for dinner, there are some common courtesies that we generally abide by.  Maybe we’re asked to take off our shoes before entering so we do, and we don’t just open their fridge and have at it, we politely ask them first.  Today on Sound Doctrine we turn to Matthew chapter 22, where we learn that we’ve been invited to the greatest feast of all time.  But you can’t come your own way, you must come God’s way.

We receive invitations all the time.  Whether it be to go out to dinner with friends or something a little more formal like to a wedding.  And generally speaking we give it some thought as to whether we’ll accept or not.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll hear an invitation go out from God Himself, and it’s the most important of all.  Question is, will you accept or reject it?  We join pastor Jeff Johnson now in Matthew chapter 22 for part one of, “To Reject the Holy Spirit’s Work.”
