Today the plan is to finish up Matthew chapter sixteen. We’ll learn what it truly means to be on the Calvary Road. This life in Christ looks much different than the way of the world. It will involve denying self, and brokenness. Something that was modeled by Jesus on His road to the cross. But first we’ll learn a thing or two from the apostle Peter, who at this particular point was following a far off, warming himself at the enemies’ fire.

We’re in First John chapter three today talking about Answered Prayer. God not only loves to hear from us, but delights in answering our prayers accordance to His will. Sure it might not be on our time frame, but we can trust that He will do what’s best and at just the right time. Let’s be encouraged to present our requests to God with the confidence He hears and answers!

Last time we were together we heard the truth about Christ. Now today we’ll hear the truth about the cross. Jesus is about to tell His disciples of the cross, and what’s coming. We’ll also learn what it means to truly follow after Christ.

Today we’ll set our sights on Matthew chapter sixteen, verses 13-20, where the church is spoken about for the first time in the New Testament. Pastor Jeff has observed three reasons why the church is so important and good for us. And the priority and focus as you’ll hear is to be Jesus!

Who do you say that Jesus is? An important question to be sure, and one we’ll come to grips with today. Maybe you’d be quick to admit, He’s Lord and everything to you! But does your life reflect that? Are you listening to Him and obeying His call on your life?

Currently on the program, we’re studying the gospel of Matthew. This account of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ has many enriching lessons for us, including a very important warning in chapter sixteen. Here Jesus warns us, ““Take heed of the leven of the Pharisees!” These Pharisees were doing many religious things, but inside they were full of dead men’s bones! They were hypocritical. And this sort of hypocrisy is alive and well, even in the church today.
