While we don’t rush into trials, God has given us one who experienced suffering and trials that exceed anything we will experience in Jesus’ life. Pastor Jeff says that we can have confidence that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us in our desperate and dark hours because He Himself experienced darkness in the Garden of Gethsemane and at the cross. Paul the apostle testified that the life and power of Jesus is present in his life, even while the sufferings and trials were trying to pull him down. When it comes to trials no one usually rushes into them. But when they do come, our response to them is telling. As we look at the way in which the church in Thessalonica handled their circumstances, we notice how Paul commends their patience and endurance through trials of persecution. Pastor Jeff reminds us that God wants to actively work through the trials that we experience as well, if we will allow Him. And as the enemy seeks to weaken us through our trials, we are reminded that we need to run to the Lord and He will work on our behalf. It begins with the words, “Our Father in heaven…” and thus began the recognition that we could call upon Almighty God as close as our very own personal parent. On January 29th 1886, man invented the power of the combusion engine. On November 1, 1952, the world learned the power of the first hydrogen bomb. But it’s been over 2,000 years and God’s people still haven’t grasped the power of God’s word. As Pastor Jeff Johnson finishes our time in the book of 1 Thessalonians we discover Paul’s view of God’s Word as a necessary component for God’s people to be read to the church.
