The Finger of God Part 1

April 21, 2022

God often shows up in our lives, in ways we might not expect, but at just the right time!  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll see an example of that as the Lord reveals Himself suddenly, breaking up a party, all to convey an important message.  We dig into Daniel chapter five and examine the handwriting on the wall… a message written by God that has great application to us today.

As Christians we have a unique and powerful testimony.  Some are rather dramatic like the one you’ll hear today on Sound Doctrine.  But all are miraculous.   Pastor Jeff Johnson is about to finish up Daniel chapter four, which is a summary of King Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony.   You’ll hear how God got his attention in a very amazing way and Nebuchadnezzar would end up being a witness of God’s loving grace.

We may look upon others as though they’re a hard nut to crack, and that they’ll never get saved.  But God has a nutcracker, and knows how to get our attention.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll recall the testimony of King Nebuchadnezzar.  At one time a proud and stubborn ruler. But he would hit rock bottom, lose his kingdom and go insane for a time.  God would open his eyes to what he needed, a Savior!

We'll be in Daniel chapter four today.   You can probably think of someone right now that you believe will never get saved.  King Nebuchadnezzar could fall into that category.  But God got His attention and saved him.  It’s such an encouraging reminder that nobody is beyond God’s reach and willingness to save.

We’re looking back to what Jesus accomplished at the cross for us.  And as we’ll see in a moment it was the most painful death imaginable.  As pastor Jeff Johnson draws our attention to the piercing and preparation of the body of Christ let’s allow it to lead our hearts toward grateful praise and adoration.  Our Savior did all of this and more for us!

The Bible teaches that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. In our message today on Sound Doctrine we will see one of the greatest examples of that. Pastor Jeff Johnson shares from Daniel chapter 4 about the rise and fall of King Nebuchadnezzar, one of the most powerful rulers in human history. And it’s a great lesson to all of us about the great danger of pride and how God saves even the most unlikely people.

We begin a new chapter in our study of Daniel today, and that’s chapter four.  I’m sure you’ve heard some amazing testimonies over the years, but this one takes the cake.  King Nebuchadnezzar would no doubt fall into the category of least likely to become a Christian.  But God got ahold of his life. He’s still performing saving miracles like this today.

Today we’re going to take notice of what God looks for in a leader.  Whether you’re a pastor, an elder, or a small group leader in the church this is valuable encouragement to receive and apply here in First Peter!
