Pastor Jeff Johnson is still in the early stages of a series through the book of Acts, and today we continue in chapter five. The sad tale of Ananias and Sapphira reminds us of how seriously God takes integrity. We may think we can fool those around us when it comes to our words matching our actions, but we cannot fool God.

Today pastor Jeff Johnson will draw out some important lessons from the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira. In Acts chapter five, Ananias and Sapphira sell some property just to get some accolades. What they receive is the Judgment of God. At the root of it all is the sin of hypocrisy.

We’ll be encouraged by the generosity of Barnabas who’s giving inspired more giving. As you hear about the early church reaching out to the needs of those around them, allow it to encourage and inspire you to be a loving vessel that God can use!

Today we’ll be covering Acts chapter four, verses 32-47. You may have heard a thing or two about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or filling of the Spirit. But how do you know if that’s happening in your life? There will be some evidence. And we see this in the early church. They were loving, selfless, unified, and giving, among other things. And this was evidence of being Spirit-filled.

It’s a good model for us to consider. You can be sure we’ll face persecution, and pressures. And how we choose to respond to it is important. Where will you go when the pressure is on?

Where do you go when the pressure is on? Today on Sound Doctrine, we’ll be introduced to a group of believers that responded well to persecution and pressure! They came together, prayed together, and encouraged one another too. On our next two programs we’ll examine the prayer that they prayed, and it’s a good one to follow! Pastor Jeff Johnson refers to it as a prayer that prevails!

We are very excited about today’s program as we return to our series in Acts. I’m sure you’ve experienced it. You wakeup in the morning and take a look at your phone realize it’s dead. You forgot to plug it into the power source overnight. Today we’ll see the great need for Christians to plug into their power source, the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:12 says - all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution! So when persecution comes to the believer in Christ it shouldn’t be a surprise. Thus far we’ve seen the first witness, then the first message and first miracle of the early church! Today we’ll recall the churches very first persecution.

We’re in Acts chapter four. In this section of scripture we’re looking at today, Peter has just given a God-inspired evangelistic sermon to a group of people who have observed a miraculous healing of a lame man. 5,000 people ended up giving their hearts to God. One might expect that joy would abound, and everyone would be excited by the news. But that wasn’t the case.

What sets Jesus apart from every other religious leader? He’s God and He conquered the grave. And because He lives, there’s something you need to know! We can turn away from our sins, be filled with His power, and live a life more abundantly.
