The Battle is the Lord's Part 1

March 10, 2022

Everyone has a standard they live by whether it’s intentional or not. You either live by God’s standards or by someone else's.  In Joshua chapter twenty-four God’s people are exhorted to make a decision about how they’re going to live and who they’re going to serve.  It’s a decision we’re faced with as well.

When going through a trial do you think as so many do, “Why in the world is this happening to me!”  It’s a common reaction.  We may think it’s strange, or that we’ve done something wrong for this to happen.  First Peter chapter four reminds us that God allows Christians to suffer…. Even when they’re living a godly life.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll learn how to occupy until Jesus comes, and arrive at a balanced life, even in difficult times.

It’s been said, “Gossip is the most deadly microbe.  It has neither legs nor wings.  It is composed entirely of tales, and most of them have stings.”  If you’ve ever been the victim of rumor and gossip, you know that sting all too well.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll see why we’re to avoid gossip and carnality.  And embrace God’s great alternative, which is becoming a peacemaker.

"Hey have you heard the news!"  If you’re like most, your ears perk up when you hear that line.  It’s usually followed up with some sort of rumor or gossip.  But today on Sound Doctrine we’ll see why we need to shut it down, and avoid getting caught up in it.  Pastor Jeff Johnson opens Joshua chapter 22 and reveals how gossip can ruin lives and even a ministry or church.

There’s a beautiful hymn that starts off, “Take my life and let it be consecrated Lord to thee!”  One might think that’s the sort of song the Levites would sing in their worship of the Lord.  And we’ll allow their lives to be an inspiration to our own, today on Sound Doctrine.  Pastor Jeff Johnson returns to his study of Joshua today.  And we’re giving attention to some wonderful ministers of God known as the Levites.

When a severe trial strikes like a Pandemic, it’s easy to think something is wrong or that God must be mad at us!  But the truth of the matter is, every Christian will go through trials and it doesn’t diminish God’s love for us, or necessarily indicate it’s as a result of sin in our lives!  Today on Sound Doctrine we continue to receive encouragement, practical instruction and eternal perspective for those times when we suffer greatly.
