One Way to Heaven - His Way! Part 2

October 26, 2022

“Oh you Christians are so narrow-minded!”  Ever heard that one before?  When we proclaim there is one way to heaven, it’s upsetting to some.  But it is the truth, and Romans makes that abundantly clear.   Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson lays out God’s one way to heaven through faith in Christ.   And then we’re to unashamedly tell others about it too.  We’ll be finishing Romans chapter nine today.

Today we pickup where we left off in Romans chapter nine, at verse twenty-five.   While many today claim that there are many roads to God and heaven, the truth of the matter is, there’s really only one way!   It’s God’s way, paved by Christ, through His work on the cross.  Some find this message far too narrow, but really we should be thankful there is a way!

We’re in the middle of a study in Romans and we’ll meet you in chapter nine today.  So who is molding and shaping your life?  Are you allowing the world to do that, or giving it your best shot yourself?  A much better way to go is to yield to God, the Potter!  You can be sure, as you do so, you’re in very good hands!

The Bible teaches that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. In our message today on Sound Doctrine we will see one of the greatest examples of that. Pastor Jeff Johnson shares from Daniel chapter 4 about the rise and fall of King Nebuchadnezzar, one of the most powerful rulers in human history. And it’s a great lesson to all of us about the great danger of pride and how God saves even the most unlikely people.

While our plans may fail God’s never will. And His plan is a good and loving plan – so we don’t have to be afraid to trust Him with our lives.  I think you’d agree, we still struggle to do so. So we could use some help with that and we find that as we continue in Romans chapter nine on Sound Doctrine!  It’s there we learn about the lesson of the potter and the clay.

Are God’s choices and decisions fair? Or when we consider God’s fairness - are we asking the wrong question? Perhaps the question should be - why does God show His grace and mercy to us at all? The fact of the matter is, without God’s grace, we’d all be lost!  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson will take us to Romans chapter nine, which has often been at the center of many debates concerning God’s sovereignty and man’s free will.

It’s God’s mercy and grace that gives me hope for the whole world, Billy Graham once said. He was on to something. And he surely reflected God’s heart. But truth be told it’s a struggle to hold this view when things go wrong. We’ll get some help from Romans chapter nine – which raises the issue of the fairness of God reflected in the choices He makes.

I probably don’t have to remind you of how unfaithful people can be!   We see examples of that in marriage, in business dealings, or even from people we call friends. While we are unfaithful at times, God always remains faithful!  And that’s something we need to constantly be reminded of.  Today on Sound Doctrine we bring you a message from pastor Jeff Johnson on the faithfulness of God, as seen in His dealings with Israel.

As things go from bad to worse in the world around us, it’s good to be reminded of God’s faithfulness.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll hear of God’s faithfulness to Israel.  And you can be sure, just as He was faithful to them, so will He be with us.  We’re in Romans chapter nine, a section that deals with Israel’s past election.

We begin a new chapter in our study of Daniel today, and that’s chapter four.  I’m sure you’ve heard some amazing testimonies over the years, but this one takes the cake.  King Nebuchadnezzar would no doubt fall into the category of least likely to become a Christian.  But God got ahold of his life. He’s still performing saving miracles like this today.

We’ve all experienced the pain on the other side of a hurtful, unfair accusation, or we’re the brunt of some harmful actions of another.  And when that happens it would be easy for us to grow bitter and angry.  But today on Sound Doctrine we’ll learn to adopt a much better response.  One of love, forgiveness, and bathed in prayer.
