Me, an Evangelist? Part 1b

November 1, 2022

“Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.” So, said famed British preacher Charles Spurgeon. But it’s more than an assertion, it’s a challenge for the Christian to really be a Christian. You see once we receive the gospel, we’re then to share it.  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson takes us to Romans chapter ten.  The emphasis here is on reaching out with the gospel.

Perhaps you heard about the parable of four people and a job to be done? In the end, “Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.” All kidding aside it begs the question, what work is the Christian to be involved in, and are we doing it?  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson open Romans chapter ten, and encourages us to get involved in the work of an evangelist!

We're in Daniel chapter four, at verse nineteen.  You can probably think of someone right now that you believe will never get saved.  King Nebuchadnezzar could fall into that category.  But God got His attention and saved him.  It’s such an encouraging reminder that nobody is beyond God’s reach and willingness to save.

When you receive some good news, you normally can’t wait to tell someone right?  Maybe you quickly create a post on social media, or make a few phone calls!  But why is it that we so often clam up when it comes to sharing the greatest news of all?  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson points out the need for evangelism.  When God saves us, He then wants us to pass this good news on to others, so that they too can be saved.

Pastor Jeff is in Romans chapter ten today talking about the need for evangelism.  Now you might be under the impression that evangelism is best left up to the Great Lauries and Franklin Grahams of the world.  But the truth is God wants every believer to be involved in the work of evangelism.  Whether it’s at the office, with the family, or as you’re seated next to a total stranger, God can use you in great ways as you faithfully share His good news.

“Oh you Christians are so narrow-minded!”  Ever heard that one before?  When we proclaim there is one way to heaven, it’s upsetting to some.  But it is the truth, and Romans makes that abundantly clear.   Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson lays out God’s one way to heaven through faith in Christ.   And then we’re to unashamedly tell others about it too.  We’ll be finishing Romans chapter nine today.

Today we pickup where we left off in Romans chapter nine, at verse twenty-five.   While many today claim that there are many roads to God and heaven, the truth of the matter is, there’s really only one way!   It’s God’s way, paved by Christ, through His work on the cross.  Some find this message far too narrow, but really we should be thankful there is a way!

We’re in the middle of a study in Romans and we’ll meet you in chapter nine today.  So who is molding and shaping your life?  Are you allowing the world to do that, or giving it your best shot yourself?  A much better way to go is to yield to God, the Potter!  You can be sure, as you do so, you’re in very good hands!

The Bible teaches that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. In our message today on Sound Doctrine we will see one of the greatest examples of that. Pastor Jeff Johnson shares from Daniel chapter 4 about the rise and fall of King Nebuchadnezzar, one of the most powerful rulers in human history. And it’s a great lesson to all of us about the great danger of pride and how God saves even the most unlikely people.

While our plans may fail God’s never will. And His plan is a good and loving plan – so we don’t have to be afraid to trust Him with our lives.  I think you’d agree, we still struggle to do so. So we could use some help with that and we find that as we continue in Romans chapter nine on Sound Doctrine!  It’s there we learn about the lesson of the potter and the clay.

Are God’s choices and decisions fair? Or when we consider God’s fairness - are we asking the wrong question? Perhaps the question should be - why does God show His grace and mercy to us at all? The fact of the matter is, without God’s grace, we’d all be lost!  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson will take us to Romans chapter nine, which has often been at the center of many debates concerning God’s sovereignty and man’s free will.
