Hypocrites Beware Part 2
October 10, 2024
Today we get back to our study of Matthew’s gospel with pastor Jeff Johnson. The plan is to cover the last couple of verses in Matthew chapter 23. Jesus is just a short time from the cross and His attention now shifts to Jerusalem. He says destruction is coming, because they have said no to God. And these words would be fulfilled.

Here Jesus is giving His final message before heading to the cross, and it might surprise you what He chose to talk about! It’s a message of warning that we really need to hear today. Are you under the impression that you’re to somehow live a religious life, in order to gain favor with God? Actually, that’s a futile endeavor. Rather, God wants a relationship with you.

Jesus is in the last week of His earthly ministry and conveying some important things to His disciples before He would leave them. In this passage He takes time out to point out the hypocrisy in the religious leaders. Essentially saying, don’t be like them! They were putting on a good show, but we’re not practicing

delivers His last sermon before His crucifixion. What He chooses to talk about may surprise you! It was a message of warning and condemnation, the greatest enemy in the last days. So definitely something we need to hear, as we’re in the last days!

Jesus is about to answer this question from an expert in the law, “Which is the greatest commandment in the law?” The Lord would reply, “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind, and then love your neighbor as yourself!” We’re talking about our relationship between God and our neighbors today!
