How God Judges Part 2

June 6, 2024

The way we judge, is very often different than how God judges!  Today on Sound Doctrine we turn to Matthew chapter eleven and hear how the Lord judged some in Tyre, Sidon and Capernaum.  With greater privilege comes greater responsibility and greater judgement.  The same holds true in our day.

When life isn’t going the way we had hoped, or God isn’t doing things the way we expected, doubts and confusion can easily set in.  That’s where we find John the Baptist in Matthew chapter eleven. He’s in prison, perplexed and even doubting that Jesus is the Messiah.  And you’re about to hear Jesus both rebuke and encourage John in a marvelous way.  It speaks volumes to us, for those times when we’re wrestling with doubts, discouragement or depression.

When we’re going through a hard time, it’s not uncommon to experience some doubts, distress or even depression!  We’ll discover today on Sound Doctrine that John the Baptist was dealing with that, while he was in prison unjustly!  So what do we do at such times and how do we process this in a Christ-like way?  Let’s find out together, as we turn to Matthew chapter eleven and listen to pastor Jeff Johnson’s message, “John’s Rebuke and Encouragement.”

We're in First John chapter two on this Monday.  In the last days there will be false teaching and great deception.  In case you haven’t noticed, that’s very much in our midst!  So how do we protect ourselves against this deception, so we’re not seduced?  We get the answer in verses 26-29.

Maybe you’re living in fear over something today?  You can break free from fear and we’ll tell you how here on Sound Doctrine.  Pastor Jeff Johnson will be finishing Matthew chapter ten where the disciples are afraid and Jesus calms their fears.  He can do the same for you.

It’s not hard to see people by and large struggle with fear in the world as we know it.  Maybe it’s a fear of death that has a grip on you, or over what’s going on with the economy and inflation, a fear of what people think of us or even what may happen if we choose to go down a certain path.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll turn to Jesus who can help to calm those fears, just as He did for His troubled disciples.

Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll learn that the world will hate and reject us when we share truth or stand up for righteousness.  But this shouldn’t surprise us, as Jesus said this would happen.  He likens us to sheep in the midst of wolves.  But the good news is we have a Good Shepherd watching over us.

In Matthew chapter ten, Jesus tells His disciples they’re going out into the world as sheep amongst the wolves.  And they’re to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves!   The reality for the Christian is we’ll suffer and face opposition.  The Lord wanted us to know that so we wouldn’t be surprised when it happens.  But we can rejoice in the midst of it all, and we’ll explain why on Sound Doctrine.

We’re going through Matthew right now, and about to get back into chapter ten.  Get ready to receive your marching orders from Jesus.  You’ll come to realize that we have a wonderful message to bring to people that needs to get out!   But we need God’s power to do it!  So today pastor Jeff highlights this message we’re to proclaim and God’s enabling as well.

We’ve been steadily making our way through First John and today we head back to chapter two, again answering the question, “Who is Jesus Christ?”  But we’re also uncovering three marks of a false teacher!   We learned previously that they depart from fellowship and deny the faith!  But they also deny Jesus Christ as God in the flesh as pastor Jeff explains on Sound Doctrine.
