Daniel's No Compromise Part 3

March 23, 2022

As this world continues its downward spiral in moral depravity, the challenge for Christians is to live a life of no compromise.  We certainly need encouragement in this area and Daniel gives it to us.  From a very young age he purposed in his heart to serve the Lord and live a God pleasing life, refusing to go with the crowd.

Today on Sound Doctrine we open Daniel chapter one with pastor Jeff Johnson.  And we’ll notice Daniel settled in his heart that he wasn't going to allow anything to get in the way of God's purpose for him.  And pastor Jeff believes that's the sort of determination we need to carry through life.  Maybe there’s something that’s getting in the way of that?  Let’s carefully consider Daniel’s life of no compromise that can serve to encourage us greatly.

Daniel was a Christian young man who took a stand for God, and determined not to be defiled, under intense pressure to say the least.  In addition to being a man of no compromise, he was also in the Word and in prayer on a regular basis.  Pastor Jeff Johnson believes that’s the sort of people we’re to be in these last days.

When going through a trial do you think as so many do, “Why in the world is this happening to me!”  It’s a common reaction these days.  We may think it’s strange, or that we’ve done something wrong for this to happen.  First Peter four reminds us that God allows Christians to suffer…. And He wants us to be a witness as we do.

We’re just getting started in Daniel, and here in the early going pastor Jeff Johnson is offering an introduction.  You might think of it as a preview of coming attractions!  While much of the book prophetic, it’s also very practical.  And as you’ll see, it serves as inspiration to live a godly life, in an ungodly environment.

As we get the study of Daniel underway, we thought it would be helpful to begin with an introduction to the book.  So today, pastor Jeff Johnson will lay the groundwork for this important series, giving us a good idea of what’s to come.

Today we polish off our study in Joshua, once again talking about the Power of Choice.  It’s our hope and prayer that you’ll echo these words from Joshua, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord!”   If that’s your heart’s desire you’ll need to come to realize that you can’t do this in your own strength, and you’ll need to die to yourself too.

Anne Frank was heard to say, “Our lives are fashioned by our choices.   First we make our choices.  Then our choices make us.”  And how true that is.  And so today on Sound Doctrine we uncover the power of choice.  Really the entire book of Joshua has been about choices, and so it's no surprise that the topic resurfaces here at the end of the book.

We have choices we make every day… from what we’re going to eat to what we’re going to wear.  And then there are the more important ones like where we’ll work and who we’ll marry.  But today on Sound Doctrine we’ll discuss the biggest choice of all, and it has to do with the master passion of your life.  We bring you our final message in Joshua this week.

When a trial strikes, or we’re in the midst of tribulation, it’s easy to think something is wrong or that God must be mad at us!  But today we learn that in this world we’re going to suffer and experience tribulation!  And here’s something else… God can actually use you as a witness as you do suffer.

Consider for a moment these famous last words:   Martin Luther said, “Our God is the God from whom cometh salvation;  God is the Lord by whom we escape death.”  John Knox was heard to say, “Live in Christ, live in Christ, and the flesh need not fear death.”  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll hear Joshua’s final words as he’s preparing to die.  He calls for a final meeting with the nation, and you’re about to hear his stirring challenge.
