Childlike Faith Part 2

August 15, 2024

As we open our Bibles to Matthew chapter eighteen today on Sound Doctrine we discover that Jesus has a very high view of children and so should we.  He tells us we’d do well to be like little children and welcome them with open arms!  But He also shares a very stern warning to those who would stumble them.

We enter a new chapter in our study of Matthew’s gospel.  That happens to be chapter eighteen.  We’ll soon see how we should be living before the Lord, and receive one another in the church!  Jesus uses children to convey a powerful faith lesson to us that will serve us well in our daily living.

As we travel through life we’re going to be hit with trouble and heartache.  It’s about that time that many of us get anxious and start to worry.  But a better course of action is to cast our cares upon the Lord.  And as a result we’ll find peace and rest.   This is modeled for us by Peter as we’ll discover today on Sound Doctrine.

We’re on an incredible journey through the gospel of Matthew right now, and we’ll join pastor Jeff Johnson at the tail-end of chapter seventeen today.  Jesus and the disciples are back in Capernaum, where Peter is about to encounter some tax collectors. They’re asking if Jesus pays the temple tax.  Let’s see what went down, here in part one of Casting Our Cares!

Today we’re going to focus on our responsibility to obey the Word of God.  Now if you think you can do that in your own strength you’d be mistaken.  The key is to abide in Christ, much like a branch that’s connected to the vine.

As we study our Bibles we notice that Satan and demons are very real and powerful.  And the enemy is still very active today, in case you haven’t noticed.  As darkness continues to grow today we’ll be reminded that there is victory in Jesus.  Our Lord is greater and can deliver us too.  Let’s join pastor Jeff in Matthew chapter seventeen and hear how Jesus delivered a young boy, and how He’s still delivering people today.

See if this sounds familiar. You’ve just experienced an incredible mountaintop experience with the Lord, and the moment you come down from the mountain, the enemy goes on the attack!  It happened to the disciples, and it happens to us.  Today on Sound Doctrine we take you to Matthew chapter seventeen, where a few disciples have just witnessed Jesus transfigured.  And now they’re making their way down the mountain.

Today the plan is to finish up Matthew chapter sixteen.  We’ll learn what it truly means to be on the Calvary Road.  This life in Christ looks much different than the way of the world.  It will involve denying self, and brokenness.  Something that was modeled by Jesus on His road to the cross.  But first we’ll learn a thing or two from the apostle Peter, who at this particular point was following a far off, warming himself at the enemies’ fire.

We’re in First John chapter three today talking about Answered Prayer.  God not only loves to hear from us, but delights in answering our prayers accordance to His will.  Sure it might not be on our time frame, but we can trust that He will do what’s best and at just the right time.  Let’s be encouraged to present our requests to God with the confidence He hears and answers!
