Because He Lives Part 1a

January 10, 2025

Last time we observed the healing of the lame man at the beautiful gate.  It was truly an amazing miracle.  With this comes a needed warning.  After God uses us, we might get a big head and think we’re something special!  God is to receive all the glory.

What happens at The Beautiful Gate is nothing short of a miracle.

Today we open the book of Acts to chapter three and begin to look at a story of a man the Lord heals.  The Lord gives this man far more than he could have ever imagined! It’s very encouraging to remind ourselves that our God seeks to do far more in and through our lives than we could have ever dreamed possible.  The reminder is necessary because life beats us down - sometimes to the point where we settle for far less.

We’ll be finishing up Acts chapter two today, with a closer look at the Christian lifestyle.  Or how we’re to be living our lives. Pastor Jeff refers to Acts 2-6 as the first Jesus movement.  And he’s observed four affects or results of them steadying on in their daily walk with the Lord.

We’re just getting our feet wet here in the book of Acts with pastor Jeff Johnson. This is an important historical book, because the Christian Church had its beginnings recorded here. When the Holy Spirit descended upon the believers on the day of Pentecost, it set in motion the wheels of an active, evangelistic Christian movement that later on in this book, swept up many a man and woman - including a certain man who came to be known as the Apostle Paul. Turn to the Book of Acts chapter one and join us.

We’re getting back to the basics today on Sound Doctrine, uncovering what it takes to become an Acts 2:42 Christian.  When we left pastor Jeff Johnson last time he was presenting the first of four things that the early church was known for.  Things that kept them healthy, and strong!  Jeff believes we need to get back to this ourselves, if we’re not already there.  First up, they were devoted to the Word.

Today we’ll focus on just two verses… Acts 2:41-42.  Here we find God’s prescription for a healthy church, or individual!  The philosophy of ministry of the early church is a good model for today’s church.  And we’ll notice four simple things that they did, which we should do as well.

Pastor Jeff Johnson will take us to Acts chapter two today, which contains the first gospel message. The gospel more than anything in this world - lives up to its name!  It truly is good news.  And I think you’d agree good news is desperately needed today in our day of hopelessness and uncertainty!  Right at the heart of the Gospel message is Jesus and His resurrection.  And Peter’s first gospel message features just that.

As we open our Bibles to Acts chapter two, you’re in for a real treat!  Verses 22-40 contain the first gospel message.  And it was all about Jesus and His resurrection.  Pastor Jeff doesn’t want us to miss the seven things that are said about Jesus.
