An Exhortation to the Church Part 2

December 8, 2022

It’s been said, “Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small thoughtful steps in the right direction.” As we continue in Romans thirteen we’ll be challenged to take some steps that will move us in the right direction, safeguarding us from sin that will lull us to sleep.  The Lord is coming soon and it’s time to wakeup!

We’re in Romans thirteen today.  You can probably identify someone in your life that is hard to love.  Maybe they really get on your nerves!  Today pastor Jeff encourages us to love God’s way, and that involves loving and forgiving someone with all of their faults.  To do so is to be like Jesus.

An ancient philosopher said, “It’s not for ourselves that we are born.” And the same is true for those who are born again. We owe a great debt. But how is it to be paid? We are making our way through the book of Romans. And have come to chapter thirteen where we discover a debt we owe.

We’ve all seen graffiti as we drive around town, and it’s very often someone trying to get a message across in a very inappropriate way.  Like to a rival gang.  But today on Sound Doctrine we’re going to draw your attention to God’s Graffiti, meant to convey a very important and needed message to a King and people who were out of line.

It’s been said, "A strict observance of the written law is doubtless one of the high virtues of a good citizen, but it is not the highest." We’ll hear about that higher law and good citizenship today on Sound Doctrine with pastor Jeff Johnson. As Christians our primary allegiance is to Christ and we know we’re to follow His Word.  But what is our responsibility to the government around us?  And is there ever a point in which we refuse to abide by the laws of the land?  We’re looking at the Christian and our civic responsibility today on Sound Doctrine.  It’s part of pastor Jeff Johnson’s study of Romans.

When somebody does us wrong, our natural inclination is to get them back, and retaliate.  Blessing and doing good to them is probably the last thing running through our minds right?  But that’s exactly what we are to do.  You just might see your enemy turn into a friend if you go that route.  Pastor Jeff Johnson will encourage us to love our enemy and bless those who persecute us on today’s Sound Doctrine.

People will let us down and hurt us at times.  It’s then we have a choice to make…. Will we forgive them, or not? It’s been well said, “Bitterness is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.” We’ll be encouraged in the direction of forgiveness and love today on Sound Doctrine.  Learn how to deal with an enemy while guarding against bitterness!

Don’t you get the feeling that Jesus is coming really soon!  The rapture of the church could happen at any time.  We need to realize our days are numbered… whether it’s Jesus gathering the church to be with Him or we die.  But the question we bring before you today is, are you ready?
