An Exhortation for 2023 Part 1

December 28, 2022

Here we are at the end of another year.  And maybe you’re hoping things will get better in 2023!  The Bible doesn’t forecast better days ahead.  In fact they will get darker and more perilous as the coming of the Lord draws near.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll pause to consider how we’re to be living as children of light in dark days!

Today we’ll be completing Romans chapter fourteen, where the apostle Paul has been showing us how we’re to resolve relationship conflicts in the church.  In other words, how to take care of in-house family problems.  None of us really want to stumble others, and this passage not only helps us avoid that, but shows us how to be a stepping-stone instead!

Maybe you’ve noticed that the church doesn’t always get along like we should.  At times we bicker and fight over the most inconsequential things.  So today we’re going to take a step back and see together how we can be stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks.  By the end of our time together you’ll see the great need to love and build one another up, at a time where people are constantly tearing one another down.

“The fear of man,” the Bible says, “is a snare.” Men use it to trap others, to control them, or worse. But there’s an anecdote I’m happy to say. That comes to our attention on today’s Sound Doctrine.  On this Christmas Eve we’ll turn to the gospel of Luke.  I know you’ll be encouraged as we do.

It’s been well said, “That while Christ was born in the first century He belongs to all centuries including ours today.” Oh, the wonder of it! May you experience it. To help you with that today on Sound Doctrine we turn to the gospel of Luke.

We’ll be in Isaiah chapter seven on this Wednesday.  Today pastor Jeff Johnson emphasizes the virgin birth and why it’s necessary for our faith.  He’ll then key in on a unique sign that was given to Ahaz, that can bring hope to the heart today.

All this week we’re airing a series of Christmas messages from pastor Jeff Johnson.  And today’s program centers around Isaiah chapter seven and some important prophecy.  If I was to ask you what is the point of Christmas, what would you say?  Some might think of family gatherings, presents to be shared and received.  But today we’ll discover that it’s really found in the name given to the Messiah… Emmanuel!

If you’re like a lot of Christians you don’t know much about Hanukkah or the Festival of Lights.  If that would describe you, we hope to change that today on Sound Doctrine.  Pastor Jeff Johnson will take us to John chapter ten and reveal that even Jesus was involved in the celebration.  We’ll learn what this holiday is about, which this year begins on December 18th and carries on for eight days.

Yes we’ve been given many liberties in the Lord!  But before we go ahead and exercise them we need to ask, “Could this stumble a brother or sister?”  Your answer to that all-important question will serve to guide you in your decision to refrain or go ahead!  We'll talk about it today!
