Departing From the Faith
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons....
1 Timothy 4:1
All of a sudden, Paul the Apostle took another direction in his address and covered a different subject. With great urgency, he warned that the Spirit had revealed that some believers will depart from the faith. The word depart denotes “a falling away” or “to withdraw oneself.”
Paul was explicit. He gave Timothy, as a young minister, a serious warning that an apostasy would happen in the Last Days. The word apostasy means “an abandonment of the Christian faith.” Why do people stop following Christ? They somehow are led astray by deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. They become apostates––sad!
In the Last Days, there will also be an increase in demonic activity. Satan is on the move, but he is running out of time. There is a shift in society. There is an increasing acceptance of afterschool Satan clubs. This year at the state capital in Kansas, a satanic, black mass was scheduled. It caused major eruptions among Christians, and a legal battle ensued.
Satanism is on the rise. In the final days of earth’s history, we are warned of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons that will cause people to leave their faith in Jesus Christ. I believe we shall also see an even greater seduction as people succumb to their fleshly desires. They have no self-control and cannot seem to maintain themselves morally.
Even Christians are giving into temptation. In all sincerity, they want to live for God, but they are unable to resist the demonic powers working against them. Believers are continually falling into sexual sin, watching pornography, taking drugs, and drinking alcohol. To overcome, Christians need the power of the Holy Spirit to live a victorious life in Christ.
Believers have to grow and mature in their faith. Abide in Christ so that you do not fall away from the faith (John 15)
...we, I say, have a fleshly nature, whose tendencies are evil, whose desires draw towards sin ... How ought we daily to cry for grace, lest we also should be “hardened through the deceitfulness of sin!”
~C.H. Spurgeon~
