A Faithful Wife
Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
1 Timothy 3:11
A faithful wife is essential in the ministry. She knows the Lord and counts the cost of ministry, sometimes serving alongside her husband. For some wives, this can often be a lonely position. The husband is busy serving, and she has more of a supportive role. Therefore, it is important to make sure the husband and wife have quality time together with their children.
The wife of an elder or pastor does not have to be in full-time ministry; she has an important role in the home. She is responsible for keeping the home in good order and watching over her children. Proverbs 31, is such an encouragement for women. It gives them a good standard to follow.
The wife of a leader in the church is not to be a slanderer. She does not gossip and tear people down; instead, She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness (Proverbs 31:26).
A godly wife watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her (Proverbs 31:27-28).
It is tragic when a man is called to ministry, but the wife is not supportive. Her rebelliousness and unfaithful behavior can actually disqualify him. When a husband is in a position of leadership, there is nothing uglier than to see a rebellious wife give him a bad reputation. A wife is to consider her husband’s reputation. It needs to be without reproach––blameless. An elder’s home is to be in order. He is to love his spouse, and his wife is to be in submission to him, and the children also.
People in the church are watching the lives of men called to leadership. As a wife, how are you assisting him?
He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the LORD.
~Proverbs 18:22~
