An Amazing Prophecy!
And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.
Nehemiah 2:8
Most people do not realize the timeline and the significance of fulfilled prophecy. What does the book of Daniel and the book of Nehemiah have to do with Easter, specifically Palm Sunday?
Nehemiah had asked King Artaxerxes for specific needs for the huge project God had called him to do––rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. By God’s mercy, the king gave everything to him. From that time forward, this event in history triggered such an amazing prophecy.
As a student of God’s Word, you may already know that Israel had entered a time of apostasy. As a result of their disobedience, they were led away into captivity for 70 years in Babylon. Right at this time in the book of Nehemiah, their 70 years of captivity was just about to be over, and the 70-week prophecy written in the book of Daniel was about to begin.
King Artaxerxes’ command to Nehemiah was given on March 14, 445 BC, and according to Daniel’s prophecy, after 483 years the Messiah would be cut off. If you calculate 483 years in their calendar, it comes out to be 173,880 days. Now if you count 173,880 days from March 14, 445 BC, it places us at April 6, 32 AD, which was exactly when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday! What an amazing fulfillment of Bible prophecy!
The 70 weeks of Daniel represents a total of 490 years, of which 483 have been fulfilled; so we are left with a final week––the 70th week of Daniel––a seven year Tribulation period, which will lead to the end of the world.
