Are You Spiritually Starving?
...nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.
1 Timothy 4:6
A good minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a pastor who is constantly nourished in God’s Word––in the words of faith and good doctrine. A pastor has to be constantly and daily studying God’s Word. Timothy had been a young man of the Word, reading the Scriptures since he was a child. It was important for him to continue his biblical studies and to mature in his faith.
What about yourself? No matter your age, you need to continue in God’s Word. You cannot rely on one Sunday morning study for your spiritual nourishment. How much time did you spend this week in God's Word? I challenge you to make a diary for an entire week to see how much time you have spent reading the Bible.
At the same time, write down how many meals you ate during the week. I am sure you had three square meals a day: Breakfast, lunch and dinner––let alone the in-between snacks. Food gives you energy to work, play, and even rest. You need sustenance––nourishment to grow and mature.
In exactly the same way, you have a great necessity for spiritual food! Feed your soul and spirit by having daily devotions in God’s Word. When you study the Bible, you will be nourished spiritually. The Scriptures will cause you to mature in the faith. Meditate on God’s Word and apply its precepts to your life. What benefits does God’s Word give to you?
Psalm 119:11: Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:130: The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Now knowing the benefits of reading God’s Word, how will you change your study habits?
Get to the Bible, and study that; search out the promises, and feed upon them.
