Joyful Generosity

Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress. Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.
Philippians 4:14-15

Paul received a missionary gift from the Philippian church. In their sensitivity toward him, they recognized that he had many needs; so they took up an offering and sent it to him to alleviate some of his immediate distress.

Paul was very grateful because God had heard his prayers and provided everything he needed. He had never asked for money. As he prayed, God touched people’s hearts to give. In helping him, the Philippians had become a channel of provision––so beautiful. He rejoiced in God’s faithfulness.

He also rejoiced knowing that the Philippians had a renewed interest in the furtherance of the Gospel in Rome. They had once more sent aid for the work of God. In their giving, the Philippian church was flourishing.

God uses churches and people to be channels to bless others. This only becomes possible when people give in obedience and in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit speaking to them. When people give to Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, we are able to support different ministries––pastors, churches in need or those serving in the mission fields in South America.

God hears the prayers of the needy; He will move people’s hearts to give and alleviate their distress.

The greatest joy of a Christian is to give joy to Christ.
