Our Stewardship From God

...of which I [Paul] became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God....
Colossians 1:25

Paul knew his call. He became a minister, which translates a word from Greek language which carries the thought of being a “servant.” A minister is to serve God’s people. He was there for the people, not the other way around. They were not to serve him. As Paul ministered to the Colossian believers, he was fulfilling the Word of God by his love and care for them. This was all according to God’s plan for his life.

Paul was given stewardship of the Gospel message. The word stewardship simply means that he was as a “house manager,” accountable before the Lord for what was given to him. He not only listened to God, but he also obeyed Him. Paul was faithful to his call and became a good example for us to follow.

We are to be good stewards or house managers of everything that God has given to us. Never take for granted what you have been given spiritually and materially. We are to be responsible for our families, our homes, cars and finances. What about being a good steward of your time? How much time do you spend with the Lord in prayer and in His Word?

Have you heard the voice of God, through the Word of God, telling you what you must do? Do you know your call? What has God specifically given to you to do? Today, are you continuing to fulfill your call as spoken to you through the Word of God? Do you see that the Word of God plays a vital part in your daily Christian life? It will always guide you and give your life direction. God’s Word must be a main priority, then everything else will fall into place.

The worst sin against stewardship is to waste your life.
