No Room in the Inn
…there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:7
Mary and Joseph traveled from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth to Bethlehem. When they finally arrived there, the streets and inns were overcrowded with all the people who had traveled far and wide to take part in the worldwide census. Everyone had to comply with the decree given by Caesar Augustus.
Surrounded by the noise of people crowding the streets, Joseph and Mary, who were tired and weary, sought any room available in an inn. They needed to find rest, but every place was filled to capacity. Joseph must have knocked on so many doors trying to find a place where they could lie down, since Mary was near her time to give birth. Sadly, we are told in the Scriptures, they found nowhere––there was no room for them in the inn.
Where in the world were they to find a place to rest their weary heads? Who would give them a quiet place so Mary could give birth to her Child? They were seemingly running out of time! But God directed them. In the end, the only available place for them was a humble stable where animals were kept. Here is where the Savior of the World would be born.
Do you have an available place in your heart for Jesus to come in and stay? Jesus knocks on the door of every human heart; He desires to dwell there––to give people His salvation: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).
Do not fill the rooms of your heart with other things. Make room for Jesus!
The inn had no room for Christ. Do you have room for Christ?
