Rejoicing in God, My Savior
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.”
Luke 1:46-49
Mary burst out in praise. She must have been so relieved to express her heart to the Lord. She had held in the miraculous news, unable to tell a single soul. Now, in the presence of her relative Elizabeth who knew she was with Child, Mary was free to express her heart in praise.
Mary rejoiced in her mighty God. Why? He had done great things for her. She was blessed to carry the Son of God in her womb. Mary recognized her poor estate. She was a humble, young woman––a lowly maidservant. God had put in motion a plan of redemption, and woven in that plan was Mary, chosen to be the mother of Jesus.
It is known to Christians that Jesus, the holy Child whom Mary carried in her womb, would be the Savior of the world. We must take into account that in Mary’s song, she knew Jesus would also be her personal Savior––God my Savior. Mary was not sinless like her Savior. Even though blessed among women, she rejoiced to know that His salvation was made available to her.
Think of your own life. God has done great things for you. He sent His Son to die for the sins of the world, but on a more personal level, He came to die for you! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Whoever means you! Think about the implications of that verse personally: For God so loved [Me].
Salvation and eternal life have been made available to you! The decision is yours. Will you accept God’s invitation to believe in His Son? Then you will not be able to hold in your joy––you will burst out in praise to God.
“O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace!”
