The Fulfilment of God’s Word
“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
Luke 1:42-45
Seeking, perhaps, a safe haven to converse with an older woman of understanding, whose own womb was the recipient of a miracle child, Mary took the journey to see her relative Elizabeth. Imagine, as a young teenager, she sought the support and company of a family member. Mary knew Elizabeth would understand the challenges she faced. As a young, unmarried, pregnant teenager, she must have felt alone. Mary would find solace with Elizabeth.
When Mary entered the familiar home, she was lovingly greeted by her relative. Words of jubilation came from Elizabeth. She was instantly filled with the Holy Spirit and confirmed all that had been told to Mary previously by the Lord. Mary was indeed blessed among women.
Elizabeth knew Mary had been chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. She had willingly submitted herself to His plan. Spontaneously, Elizabeth’s baby leaped in her womb for joy. John, her unborn child, knew Jesus was nearby. When Elizabeth humbly received Mary into her home, she also commended her for her great faith. She reassured her young relative that everything spoken to her would be fulfilled.
Did you notice that Elizabeth made a very important statement? She referred to the Child in Mary’s womb as “my Lord.” Through the power of the Holy Spirit, she knew the majesty of the Child carried in the womb of Mary. He would become her personal Lord and Savior.
Is Jesus your Lord and Savior? He came to forgive you of your sin. Accept Him as your Savior. Christmas will have new meaning if you do.
The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.
