A Christian’s Spiritual Weapons
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Ephesians 6:17-18
As a Christian, learn to fight your battles with the spiritual weapons. God has provided them for you! There are two main weapons of offense used against the enemy. The first is the Word of God––the sword of the Spirit:
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
Men and women need to read God’s Word systematically. Listen, if you are not in the Word of God, then you will have no offensive weapon. How in the world are you going to face your battles if you fail to learn from the stories in the Bible? They have been written for our example. Learn how the saints of old overcame. Learn from their mistakes and what caused them to be defeated. We can glean lessons from their experiences, as they faced their trials and trusted God for the outcome.
Another offensive weapon for Christians is prayer––so important. Those fighting against demonic, spiritual foes need a disciplined life of prayer. We are to pray in the Spirit––that is key. The Holy Spirit gives power and energy to the Christian wearing God’s armor.
Learn to win the battle on your knees before God. This is a position of humility and submission to the will of God. The Bible tells us: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:6-7).
Is your life fully submitted to God? How can you resist the devil if you are not?
Submission… involved getting rid of everything which hinders God’s control over our lives.
