Having a Right Perspective of Ministry
Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
2 Corinthians 4:1-2
Paul had a lot to say about serving in the ministry. He encouraged people because among them many lose heart and faint in the ministry––they just give up. If you have received a ministry from the Lord, do not give up, do not faint. Ask someone to pray for you. Make yourself accountable not only to God, but also to others, for the responsibility of the good news of the Gospel.
Paul was encouraging and enlightening the Corinthians to the fact that if they hid the Good News, as if behind a veil, it is hidden from those people who need it the most––the perishing:
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake (2 Corinthians 4:3-5).
As a man or woman of God, make yourself accountable for what you have received from the Lord––the beautiful Gospel. Do you realize that the Gospel is to continuously shine through us? Those who are lost need to see the true light of Christ in our lives. Do not hide your light!
The world is so dark and there are so many needs in this world. Yet some people hide themselves by refusing to give themselves fully to the Lord. They have become so involved with other things that they have no time for anyone else. Yet there is a whole world dying without Christ! Let your light shine! God desires to use your life tremendously.
I would not give much for your religion unless it can be seen. Lamps do not talk, but they do shine.
