Wakey Wakey

February 27, 2024

Rather than simply coasting through life, the Bible encourages us to wake up and take our lives and obedience to Christ seriously. There will come a day when our lives here on earth end, so we must make the most of it and consistently point others to Christ.

If we are not connected in a church where people know who we are, we are more likely to wander away from God. Find a church, get connected and help herd everyone to stay together, also finding those that are lost and bringing them back to the fold.

The Bible addresses those who are fools many times. It specifically instructs us to not do the things they do but instead to live wisely. It is not worth anything to know what the Bible says unless we live out what we know. We must embrace every day, living wisely, because we could be gone tomorrow.

We can all feel let down at certain times in our lives by others, by God, or even by ourselves. No matter what our circumstances may be, God promises comfort and that He will provide for all we need to do the work He has called us to do until we go home to Him.

There are different instances where God is out of sight yet in every one we are called to trust Him. He often brings us to places where our faith is stretched because we are not sure how He is going to provide for our needs, but He always provides all that we need when we seek Him first above all things.

The human nature struggle with sin is the reason why Jesus had to come and die on our behalf, and in doing so He gave us the power through His Spirit to overcome the sin in our lives. It is only through God working in us and through us that we can be like Him, showing kindness, love, gentleness and compassion to others in ways that doesn’t make worldly sense.

God’s faithfulness to fulfill all of His promises has shown true throughout all of history. As He asks us to be faithful to following Him, He also does everything in order for us to be faithful by Him living through us if we would just yield our lives to Him every moment.

The Bible talks about God’s character and all the things He made as good. In His mercy, He works in us to manifest goodness and mercy in our lives everywhere we go. Our response to Him needs to be allowing the sin in our lives to break off and trust that what He has for us is always better than what we could try to attain ourselves.

You don’t have to be weird just because you’re a Christian, but because God has chosen you to be part of His family that sets you apart from everyone else. Live in such a way that your life reflects the work that Christ did for you on the cross and what He continues to do in your life.

Instead of finding our value in other people noticing our work, we must rest in the knowledge of the value that God has given us when He chose us in Christ. Once we receive value from Him, we can respond by praising and appreciating Him for all He’s done as well as others to help them find the same God-given value.

Jesus died so that we could all be saved, but not only from hell but from a life of sin. When we accept God’s forgiveness for our sin we are justified by His grace, and when we proclaim Him as Lord of our lives we are sanctified everyday to become more like His Son.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
