No Chance

September 6, 2022

We live in a world that is broken by sin, and that includes our own lives whether we want to admit it or not. In order to change, we must be in a growing relationship with God. When He lives in us, His love for others flows through us and we can change the world around us.

Jesus taught that we are to look around for those who need to be spoken for in the midst of their struggles, then step in and advocate for them. He modeled this in the ultimate way when we needed a Savior and He stepped in to take on our sin upon Himself, and He continues to step in for us as He intercedes to the Father on our behalf.

As part of the family of God, we have a responsibility to each other to remain spiritually right with God so that when we see a brother or sister struggling then we can call them out on it and help them through it. Too often we leave that job to pastors or people in authority, but it is just as much our responsibility to go after lost sheep.

It’s important to understand that we must have boldness to call people out in their sin, but do it in a way that is with love. We call people out because we know that sin is destroying their lives and God has so much better for them. We need to be a light in the world, exposing sin and leading people to call out to God.

Because of Christ’s death on the cross as payment for our sin, we are spoiled rotten to the point that all we have to do is truly repent and be clean. There will be consequences, however we should be grateful because our consequences are given to us out of love, and we must genuinely learn from them.

Throughout Scripture we see how God takes ordinary people and uses them to accomplish His work. God still wants to use ordinary people like us and all we have to do is be available to Him.

We live in a culture that continues to normalize sin into regular, accepted and even celebrated behavior. Whether the culture agrees with it or not, truth is truth and it is found in Scripture. If we are truly following Christ then His heart for the lost should be our heart as well, which means we do not hate people who are living in sin but are rather broken over their souls and pleading with them in truth to repent.

We are all going to die unless we live to see the day that Jesus comes back. Knowing that, it is essential that we believe in Jesus and His resurrection, giving our lives to Him so that we can be with Him for all eternity and never experience permanent spiritual death.

Without God, we are just a pile of dry and dead bones. When we simply receive the gift of salvation that He offers out of grace, we are brought to life and have the opportunity to share this with a lost world.

Just like the prodigal son took a look around at his life and decided to give home a second chance, we need to be honest with ourselves and how our life has turned out trying things our own way. God is always inviting us to come back to Him, and when we do He will welcome us with open arms.

No matter what has happened in the past, we must not let it hold us back from moving forward in our lives and the work God has left us on this earth to do. God has a purpose for us and we need to let go of the past so that we can be transformed from the inside out, grow in relationship with Him and pick up our part in His plan.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
