Idiotsyncracies

The Bible very specifically points out the hypocrites who teach one way to live and live themselves in a completely different way. It’s one thing to do the right actions, but it’s a whole other thing with greatest importance to have a heart relationship with God and follow Him so that out of that comes the fruit of our lives.

There are plenty of stories in the Bible of God’s people who felt overwhelmed and wanted to quit the work that God had called them to do. We can all face those times when we no longer want to keep struggling and fighting, but God just wants us to come to Him because He is not done with His work in us.

We can study the Bible all we want, but until we are given eyes to see through the Spirit we will not be able to truly see and know God. In order to grow deeper in a relationship with God we must ask Him to reveal Himself to us through His Spirit in Scripture.

When we first become Christians it is important that we receive pre-digested milk, breast milk, from other older believers. But after awhile we need to learn to nourish ourselves so that we can help feed and grow other new Christians.

The only way that a person can be a truly great leader is if they are already following someone else, most importantly Jesus Christ. We, as Christians are called to be leaders and make disciples, teaching those who are following to do the same. This command of discipleship and leadership must be the focus of the Church, otherwise everything else gets out of focus and does not have much purpose.

Knowing the Word of God and believing in it are two different things. When we believe it, God’s power through Scripture transforms our lives and we have hope in salvation and our lives bear spiritual fruit.

There’s a difference between saying sorry and meaning it only for a short time and being truly repentant for our actions. God always offers grace, mercy and forgiveness, but we need to not take it lightly. When we are convicted of our sin we need to be sorrowful, repent, and change our behavior.

We need to start by believing that God is for us and not against us, then trust Him in any difficult situation. When we trust God in seemingly impossible circumstances, we see His incredible glory shine through our lives in a way that points back to His work in and through us.

The Word of God has the power to work in us surgically to expose our hearts and the things in us that are sinful, and His Word renews and redeems us. Rather than running from the Word for whatever reason, we must find ourselves in His Word to live a life of sanctification and obedience to Him.

There are monuments set up to remember soldiers who gave their lives for a cause during battles fought here on earth and it is good for us to remember them. We also must keep in mind that there is a constant battle going on for our souls and Jesus gave His life to win that battle for us if we choose His side.

When we ask God along the way before taking any steps in a relationship, He will guide and direct us to the blessing of marriage the way He intended for it to be. When in a relationship, it’s important to talk through all aspects of the future before diving into marriage.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
