We all have a conscience built within us that creates some boundaries in our lives, and we know when we’ve crossed those boundaries. Instead of carrying around the guilt of our sin everywhere we go, we can find forgiveness and freedom in Christ who can wipe our conscience clear.

Temptation is an inevitable part of life, and often times we find ourselves being tempted by the same things over and over and over. God always offers us a way to resist the temptation, but we can only do that through His power and obeying what He says no matter how hard it gets.

It is easy to be fearful of the future because you don’t always know what to expect. God knows the future and nothing takes Him by surprise. No matter what happens, He is always in control and we must trust Him.

Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross and in return He asks that if we follow Him – to take up our crosses in life. Odds are it won’t mean laying down our physical lives – however it could mean laying down our personal desires, goals and aspirations. Denying oneself for the sake of another. Not a comfortable proposition – but one that has immeasurable reward.

In the Bible, Jesus speaks about the condition of the heart and  money in Matthew 6:21 when He said, “For where your treasure is, there your  heart will be also.” It speaks of how powerful money can be (love/hate  relationship). It can either control us (we become a slave to it), or as we  surrender to God, including our money (treasure), we allow Him to have control  of our lives, and then our money can become a conduit for His work, His  Kingdom, and His purposes. Seeking the latter comes with the promise that all  the things we need in life will be taken care of.

We are born into a world of sin where we find ourselves naked and ashamed. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, taking on not only our sin but also our shame, and made it possible for us to be covered when we come to Him butt naked and in need.

Christians are called to be united together as one Body. When everyone works together so much more is accomplished than if everyone worked alone. The devil will do his best to keep the Body from accomplishing God’s work but when there is unity not even He can stop what is being accomplished.

There can be a variety of things that remind us of mistakes we have made in our past, but the fact is that God has forgotten and remembers our sin no more when we are washed in the blood of Christ. Rather than allowing these times that the devil reminds us of our mistakes to bring us down, we should instead sing praises to God and fight back with Scripture, moving forward from the past and embracing the future God has for us.

The Bible mentions about remaining humble, and in due season God will basically ‘put us in the game’ in whatever capacity He has for us. We may or may not be starter material, just as not all athletes can start a game. However, we should all ‘show up’ for practice, show humility and patience. If we at least do the things that please Him, who knows…at any moment He could be like the coach who says, OK, you’re up!

There’s a story in the Bible about a man who had some friends that had great faith in Jesus being able to heal their friend of paralysis. The faith of his friends and his obedient response to Jesus not only healed his physical ailment but his sins were forgiven. We must have faith that God can do the impossible, obey what He tells us to do, and lead others to Him and allow Him to do all the powerful work in, through and all around us.

We can try to make anything in life happen whether it be marrying a certain person or taking a certain job. The truth is that if it is not God’s will for our life then it will turn out to be a huge mess. The only way to know God’s will is by spending time with Him through prayer and Scripture and letting Him lead you.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
