The story of Peter sharing the Gospel with Cornelius, a gentile, is an example to us that God will sometimes stretch us to break traditions for His purpose of reaching others. We must make sure to be listening to God and not going off and doing things on our own. The people He calls us to reach and the places He calls us to go may stretch us, but everyone is in need of Him, even ourselves.

The Bible tells us that everything in creation is held together by God and He is present in every place. There is nothing that we can do to get away from Him, so when we finally surrender to Him He begins to live inside of us through His Spirit. Once He is inside of you and you are saved, you can never lose Him and He will always be with you.

The story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead showed the disciples that even death cannot stop Him, yet when He did and was placed in a tomb they doubted what He had promised. Nothing is impossible for God to do in our lives and we need to remember that and trust Him.

Because of Christ’s death on the cross, we have all been given the grace and forgiveness needed to be accepted by God as His children. There is no sin too great to be covered by His grace. Once we experience His grace in our own lives, we can share that with the hurting people around us.

The Bible teaches us that when we are in Christ we are made completely new, no longer enslaved to the sins from our past. While it is difficult to give up sins that have been a habit or a comfort for so long in our old lives, God gives us the power to conquer sin, and He covers us in grace in the process.

The evil in the world today has led to millions of unwarranted deaths of unborn children. While we may come to God with an initial political view of being pro-choice, we cannot stay that way as we mature in Christ and God produces in our own hearts the value of life that He created in the womb. Once we are convicted of fighting for life, it is important that we do what we can to take a stand against this evil in the world.

We don’t know when God will say that our time on earth is done. Rather than wasting the time we are given we need to obey God in everything He tells us to do so that He can live in us and through us to reach as many people as possible.

The way that we live obediently in following Christ is to partake in the compassion that He shows us and others by caring for and comforting one another. We will all suffer, and we all need each other to lean on for strength on the foundation of God’s Spirit living in us and carrying us through.

The Bible is filled with instruction for all of God’s people to turn from sin and follow Him. We cannot follow God, carry on a relationship with Him and worship Him with our lives when we are continuing down the path of sin. We must change our mind about our sin, turn completely away from it and toward God so that we can truly follow Him in the right direction.

The person who firmly grounds themselves in the Word and obeys what it says is better braced for when tragedy comes than the one who does not prepare. Suffering is promised in this life, and as we walk through those seasons of suffering our lives are a testament to God’s work in us so that through us He can reach the world for the Gospel.

The Scripture is full of people who suffered and honestly declared their feeling of God leaving them out to dry. However, their stories also reveal how God was working out a bigger plan, never left them, and gives us hope in our suffering to be comforted by Him through it.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
