Birthing Persons

August 30, 2022

We live in a culture that continues to normalize sin into regular, accepted and even celebrated behavior. Whether the culture agrees with it or not, truth is truth and it is found in Scripture. If we are truly following Christ then His heart for the lost should be our heart as well, which means we do not hate people who are living in sin but are rather broken over their souls and pleading with them in truth to repent.

We are all going to die unless we live to see the day that Jesus comes back. Knowing that, it is essential that we believe in Jesus and His resurrection, giving our lives to Him so that we can be with Him for all eternity and never experience permanent spiritual death.

Without God, we are just a pile of dry and dead bones. When we simply receive the gift of salvation that He offers out of grace, we are brought to life and have the opportunity to share this with a lost world.

Just like the prodigal son took a look around at his life and decided to give home a second chance, we need to be honest with ourselves and how our life has turned out trying things our own way. God is always inviting us to come back to Him, and when we do He will welcome us with open arms.

No matter what has happened in the past, we must not let it hold us back from moving forward in our lives and the work God has left us on this earth to do. God has a purpose for us and we need to let go of the past so that we can be transformed from the inside out, grow in relationship with Him and pick up our part in His plan.

It is good to regret our sin, but it should always lead us to repentance in which God resets our lives and begins to restore us. Once we’ve been restored, we can share our story with others and give them hope for the same outcome in their lives.

Allowing unfair circumstances to get the best of us, or trying to change things and do things our own way, does not get us anywhere but rather worse off. God’s got a plan and we can see that through the various stories in Scripture when He used trials to abundantly bless His children in the end.

We are all susceptible to messing up, no matter how obvious the right way seems to be. Jesus said that it is not only in knowing the Scripture that our foundation is grounded on, but it is in applying what we know to our lives and following through in obedience.

The Bible tells us that God intricately made us just the way we are from the moment we became life in the womb. He has plans for us and can fulfill those plans no matter what mistakes we’ve made. When God calls us to take a stand for something we need to submit ourselves to Him in obedience.

It’s easy to find all the reasons why God shouldn’t use us, or even reasons why we don’t want Him to use us, but all of those are just excuses. Our purpose is to do the work of God and we must believe that He can overcome any of our inadequacies to accomplish what He wants to do in us and through us.

God has determined the length of each of our lives, but we do not know when our time is up. Rather than wasting the time He gives us by running our own lives, we need to submit to Him and let Him use us however He pleases.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
