Back To Life

April 4, 2021

After Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, His disciples went back to the lives they were living before they followed Him. While a break from the norm can sometimes be a good reset, we must be determined to follow Him with even greater fever when life resumes.

The Bible tells us that Jesus was the perfect sacrificial Lamb that paid the price for all the sin of the world. When we don’t believe that and keep living in our own sin we are carrying the guilt and debt that our sin brings us, but when we choose to believe and give Him our sin and shame He takes it on Himself and freely offers us eternal life.

Even the disciples didn’t believe Jesus when He said He would rise from the dead on the 3rd day because when that day came no one expected to see Him but rather continued preparations for His burial. It is okay to question and doubt, but at some point we have to choose to walk in faith and believe the words that are written in Scripture, allowing the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to see its truth.

In the world of magic, it is one thing to make something disappear but it is only magical if you can bring it back. Jesus’ resurrection was not magic, in fact it was proven time and time again to be real truth, and His death, burial and resurrection is worth believing in and giving your life for.

As Christians, if all the things we say about God are true, why aren’t we spending more time with Him? Our lives are consumed with busy schedules and priorities that don’t matter for eternity. We need to be prioritizing our lives around Him, spending time with Him and growing in love for Him.

Even though Jesus told His disciples multiple times that He would be raised from the dead, they did not believe Him until after it had happened and He proved Himself to them. The Gospel story is a crazy story to believe, but the testimony of those who believe it is undeniable and is changing the world.

Many people see Christians as hypocrites, and that is because we proclaim one thing and do another in secret. If we’re going to actually win anyone over to Christ, it is essential that we are vulnerable with them, showing them how Christ has redeemed us from our own sin and be transparent about how He is currently working in our lives and hearts.

God may not always give us the things we ask for, but He wants us to keep asking. As we grow in our relationship with Him, He begins to put things on our hearts to ask for that are according to His will and we see Him provide those things over and over.

Putting aside the influences that we may have been raised around when it comes to people who are different than us, Jesus unites us together and asks us to love one another. God’s family does not differentiate by race, economics, social standings, or anything else that our culture uses to distinguish people. We are all invited into salvation, and we can equally love Him, be loved by Him, and love each other.

When we experience consequences for the sin that we are partaking in, we need to respond in worship, thanking God for loving us enough to discipline us. The Bible is never supposed to be used as a weapon against us but rather as the Good News that there is forgiveness for those who believe and repent.
March 24, 2021
The Bible tells us about eternity in Heaven with God being far better than we could ever imagine. Rather than focusing on chasing after all the things in this life that we think will make us happy, we need to chase after God and look forward for what is to come.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
