Sarah Walsh Landini was a 20-something, unmarried Christian who abstained from sex.  But at age 23, she didn't, and one month later she was pregnant.  "The Bible says not to do it," she says, "but I think, for most people, they need more than that…we want to know why. And most of the time folks aren't prepared to answer the question why."[1]

I am incredibly blessed to be married to a man who brings me coffee in bed every single morning.  My morning mug comes with a splash of half and half, a mixture of one-half milk, and one-half cream.  Like my morning coffee with half and half, the sacrament of our marriage is supposed to be a unified blending of two unique individuals into one entity. Scripture describes unity using the image of a braid – multiple strands woven together are stronger than the single strands alone.

Few of us are very happy when our carefully laid plans start to go off script. We cringe at emails marked "URGENT" from bosses, banks, doctors, or family members. Why now, we wonder, when we had just caught our breath? Have you heard of the Mark of the Beast that's talked about in the Bible book of Revelation?  Many have tried to pinpoint exactly what form this mark will take, but it's an indication on the body that you are not a follower of Jesus Christ.  We're familiar with the concept of branding or marking to show ownership because we brand livestock, and in horrible chapters of history, humans have branded other humans. But we don't have to fear being accidentally marked because the meaning of markings in scripture is specific and intentional.

Sofia was working as a restaurant cook when Covid hit.  She called her workplace to say she wasn't coming in because she didn't feel well. They knew it could be Covid, but tests weren't widely available then, so the restaurant closed out of caution. Sofia knew she had done the right thing by reporting her illness, but fear was running high and she worried about the stigma she might face.
