At Love Worth Finding, we join with many other ministries at this crucial time, calling upon God’s people to pray. His people must repent and seek His face if our nation is to survive. Adrian Rogers addressed this need in the following message.
Is it too late for America? Have we already passed the point of no return? Will our forefathers’ dream of America become a national nightmare? This wonderful nation, born in 1776, must be born again or we will join the graveyard of nations.
America used to be a land where biblical truth was upheld. Pregnancy outside of marriage was a scandal, homosexuality was a sin, pornography was a moral sickness, marriage was sacred, “shacking up” was disapproved, child abuse was rare, and we didn’t need to lock our houses or cars. School students were allowed to pray, and the Ten Commandments were posted on school walls.
But we’ve insulted the Almighty, becoming proud, wallowing in materialism, rotting in sin, searching for what we call pleasure. Christians are shunned and laughed at. TV commentators label biblical truth “extreme right-wing rhetoric.”
We’re ripe for judgment. America must turn to God or she will die. Yet there’s hope in God’s promise:
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
God Has A People
His promise applies only to what God’s people do, not politicians or celebrities. He’s looking at us, no one else, to humble ourselves, pray, and repent. If America falls, God’s people will have failed. Revival “begins at the house of God” (1 Peter 4:17). The hope of America isn’t in the White House, but God’s house. If you’re among “His people,” you’re summoned to pray.
God Hates Pride
Pride is #1 on God’s hate parade. Of the seven things Proverbs 6:16-17 says God hates, pride starts the list. Today in America, we reek with pride.
In pride and haughtiness, we strut in the face of God. God cannot bless either a person or a nation with such pride. We’re to humble ourselves.
…God resists the proud, but gives more grace to the humble. (James 4:6)
Think about God resisting you, resisting America, setting Himself in battle array against us! Thank God “He gives more grace to the humble,” but we must first humble ourselves.
God Hears Prayer
But only prayer that seeks His face in repentance and humility. Americans cry, “God, do something!” Beloved, God is doing something: judging this nation.
Praying for mercy without first repenting (turning from sin) is a religious farce. God will not bless us while we’re killing babies and sodomy struts down main streets with pride, when He is cursed, maligned and can’t be mentioned in the public square.
Praying without repentance actually angers God. Read Psalm 80:4—
O Lord God of hosts, how long will You be angry against the prayer of Your people?
He won’t bless America until we repent. Repentance isn’t feeling sorrow, tears, confession, or conviction. Repentance is a decisive action, turning from our sinfulness toward God (Acts 20:21). The two sides of this coin are: Seek His face. Turn from sin.
I’m not asking if you’re “sorry” for your sin, but will you, His people, turn from your sin? America would be changed overnight if that happened. If not, America will perish.
God is our only hope, but He’s also our biggest threat. I’m not as afraid of what terrorists might do to America as what God may do.
He would rather pardon than judge. He’s angry at our sins but full of mercy.
If the church begins to repent and obey, God will forgive America.
I don’t know if we’ve crossed God’s deadline, but if ever we needed repentance, it’s today. Don’t think about anyone but yourself. Will you get your heart right with God today? Pray,
“O God, if there is any unconfessed, unrepented of sin in my life, let me know it (Psalm 139:23-24). Help us set our hearts to seek You. I will live by repentance and faith. Have mercy on America and may America bless You.”
Is there any hope for America? The God who sent revival to Mt. Carmel, to Nineveh, and to England in the 16th century, is alive and well. Democrats, Republicans, Independents—all need to bow before Him. Almighty God will hear from Heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
