In the passage of scripture that we're going to be looking at in this time of study, there's an emphasis on the Levites. Now the Levites took a unique position. We know that there is a concept of the firstborn, and we learn in the scripture that God has called the Levites, this tribe, in order that they would replace the other first born from all the tribes, that they would serve as the firstborn.

It is of the utmost importance that when we come across a prophecy that we rightly understand to whom that prophecy is addressed, and when we arrive at the book of Amos in chapter five, we see something that at first seems very confusing, because we're going to be speaking about Israel, and when we speak about Israel, there's a few different ways to understand that term from an Old Covenant perspective.

Are in the book of Numbers. We have completed the first chapter, so obviously you are now ready for chapter two, and this chapter is going to be somewhat unique. Now, mostly we study God's Word, going through the Scripture, verse by verse, concentrating on each word and the grammatical construction. But this chapter is somewhat unique.

We saw last week that our Lord and Savior that he was crucified and He died upon that tree. And now we're going to look at some individuals and how they responded to him after he had died, and we're going to focus in on one man named Joseph and a group of women who had followed him from the Galilee to Jerusalem and watched and observed not only his death, but also where he was buried. And what's also important is how he was buried.

Water is an important concept in the scriptures. Frequently, water symbolizes life, but when we speak not simply of water, but rather rain, it symbolizes blessing. And when God withholds the rain. What he's saying is, I'm not willing to bless this group of people, that there's something a problem, there is something offensive about them, and therefore I will not bless now realize that God's desire is to bless, therefore it's us.

Last week, we began a new book, the book of Numbers known in Hebrew as Bahamut bar, which means in the desert or in the wilderness. And the primary thing that this book teaches from its name, because wilderness or desert is not a place of sustenance. We find that it's only through relying upon God, trusting in God, believing in God, that one finds God's provision.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do. Many times you have an opportunity to act and achieve what you want, but if it's not what God wants, you ought not do it. We need to understand how to practice restraint, to cause ourselves to say no to the things that God is not glorified with.

Are going to begin the Book of Numbers. And the first thing that we need to realize is that in the biblical language, it is not called the Book of Numbers. That is a understanding that comes from the Septuagint, which is is basically helping us understand what a good portion of the Book of Numbers relates to.

We all know that the most important event ever in human history is the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus of Nazareth. But in order for him to rise from the dead, first, he needed to go to the cross. He had to be crucified, and we're going to see that that crucifixion was an act of humiliation and shame and disgrace. And what's the message for us? That is what sin brings upon us, shame, humiliation and disgrace.

About Dr. Baruch Korman
R. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Zera Avraham Institute based in Israel. He also appears on the Israeli Television program Pdut L'amo where he teaches each week from the Bible (This program is in Hebrew).
A similar Bible Study program in English is broadcast on numerous television networks across the United States, Europe, and Africa. Many of his lectures are available in the forms of video, audio and written on Pdut.org (Hebrew) and LoveIsrael.org (English).
Baruch holds a PhD in Jewish Studies. His dissertation was in the translation techniques of the Septuagint. Baruch has been married for 30 years to his wife, Rivka, and they have three adult children. The Kormans live in Israel.
